I would say to each his own opinion but for me I'm with the generator 100% (and this is not as a sales pitch either). The way I see it, you can run all day any day without having to recharge. You can go fly on short notice without having to have planned to charge. You don't need to field charge any more. You don't need to worry about battery charge levels any more. You can fly with a cheap NiCD or NiMH battery -- I just bought two NiMH 2200 4 cell packs from the WRAM show a couple of weeks ago for my two gassers for $20. Those packs weigh 4.3oz, along with a generator weighing in at 3.7oz that is 8oz total between generator and battery (mount not included so add say 2oz for that) and that is the complete power system for you heli. Betterstill, its an infinite power system with a very long life (could last years) and the replacement part for it is a $10 battery.
Total cost for this generator system versus a duralite system is about the same, but down the road I'm alot happier with a generator than a battery to charge and maintain.
Now that Chris has had a chance to taste the generator system on the Bergen Twin, (thanks Chris by the way for building/setting up that machine for us), I'm sure he'll be more excited about the generator than just hearing about it.
But hey, the generator is not for everyone and when that option is not ideal for some reason, thankfully there is another option of duralite batteries to keep you in the air longer!

The generator system sounds really cool! Maybe that's the way to go down the road for me too. I really like the sound of it. But, for now my Duralites are pretty new and are doing a pretty good job. I don't really have to plan much in advance either since they seem to hold a charge pretty good for days. But at least with a generator, there's no wondering or questioning.

I have had the duralites but are now running Jewels on my 2 Bergen Ebs
And I'll never go back to batteries again bring your gas can and transmitter batteries, coffe and warm clothes and fly all day and in to the next day

Brady, the Duralite Li-Ion batteries hold a charge indefinitely. They don't gradually lose their charge like NiCad and NIMH. You should be able to charge them up and if you don't fly again for a month or two the battery will still be fully charged.

Bobs,
Yeah, that's what I've noticed about them. That's why I was thinking that a bunch of planning in advance before flying really isn't that much of an issue if you have the Duralite Li-Ion batteries. I can charge once, and they're good for days and days later.

Ok everyone. The GOODS have officially come today. As you can see from the pics, I started ASAP. More progression pics to follow. Thanks everyone for your suggestions and comments.

Congras mister2u! Isn't is awesome the help you have here right at your fingertips?
I can't even begin to tell you all the immediate responses I've gotten on here and through phone calls when I was building.
I too am running Li-Ion with a regulator instead of the generator route, but 2 guys here that I fly with both have generators on their gassers (that they designed themselves). It is quite neat seeing their setup work!
Anyway, good luck with the rest of the build!

The build is going great! It helped alot when I called Chris and realized that I was using the wrong manual  . I'm going to take a break, however. I've spent about 25 hours building so far. Plus, I busted one of those 5x8x2.5 flanged bearings. Just ordered some, though. I have added addtional pics to show progression. Until next time.

I had originally downloaded the Rev. 1 version, but was told by Chris that they had revised it. It is still Rev. 1 (for the Intrepid EB Gasser), but with some changes in the hardware requirements for the build. The latest manual came with the kit on CD format.

Thanks for the luck. I know I'm gonna needed it! I'm hoping that I will be able to complete my build within the next week and a half. And as usual, I will keep the pics coming! :glasses2:

Ok, this may be a dumb question, but here I go. I'm currently intalling the Elevator Servo and Pushrods. It asks me to power up the servo to adjust the ATV/End Point at 85% on each side of center stick. Problem: not sure how to power the servo using the Futaba R319DPS receiver. Also, not sure of which channel to use. By looking at the menu on the transmitter (9CHPS), it appears to be channel 2 for the elevator.

You'll need the transmitter on as well as the heli RX powered.
The intent here is to electronically center the servo.
If you can't tell which channel a particular servo goes to (and futaba is bad about this...:)) just try plugging one in to see which stick controls it.

Hey now! I personally like the radio being easy to use and not having to carry around a back-breaking manual.

It's only fair after all the harassment Chris has doled out each time he sees my 9C.
And I don't hurt my back carrying around my manual...I use a hand truck
Seriously, why carry the manual around? Everyone knows it's useless
