I feel like I'm taking advantage asking so many questions. Is there anyway to donate or support the site?
I now have my Gear channel set for the Gyro. Jermo's video was very helpful for setting up the DX7. I had a bunch more questions then watched it 3-4 times, and now I'm pretty happy with what I'm doing.
Questions for today...
To set up my servo's I had to reverse the aileron, then put all of my swash values to negative 50. i.e.
Aile - 50%
Elez - 50%
Pit. - 50%
Is that normal/usual?
I'm using a DX7, AR7000 and HS65MG's installed as per the videos here.

I installed mine on the GEAR channel on my AR6100 Rx.

It is what it is.
Of course if everything is reversed, you COULD un-reverse the aileron and reverse alevator and pitch, but since you have already done it, that would mean you would have to reverse all three swash settings again. And it doesn't make any difference on how it flies.
So I would leave it alone.

This was the method I used... reversed elevator and pitch

In standard mode my gyro initiates with the tail arm centered, (0 pitch) with the servo 90 deg. perpendicular to the boom. O.K. great. When I reinitate the gyro in HH (un plug the battery) without moving the tail, then the gyro initiates with about 15 deg tail pitch, not centered. Is this normal? or should the tail blades be centered 0 pitch when the gyro initiates in HH. Thanks ahead of time

In HH mode, it is normal for your tail pitch to be "not centered". Does it hold the tail in hovering in HH mode? If so, you're fine. :)

Thanks, I haven't been able to try it because it is raining hard today. I believe the setup is correct. i've watched videos, read threads, gryo manuals, etc... I understood it, but I didn't see anything about the pitch changing when switching to HH from constant rate. I will have someone check it out for me next chance I get. Before I hover, I want to make sure it is setup right. When I first bought the heli, I knew nothing. I built my own training gear and would get it off of the ground a few inches and kill the throttle. I got brave and gave some more throttle. As it climbed to about three feet, the heli was tracking back and to the left. I got nervous and slammed the throttle down, not knowing it would go into negative pitch and slam it into the asphalt. I basically had to rebuild the whole heli. It has been a great learning experience. I have spent over 200 hours reading and learning, and rebuilding. Since the Blade 400 is rtf, there is no setup other than a miniature parts explosion graphic. I had a pretty good flyer check it out last week, but there was tail problems. So I went back to study. I found my servo was mounted to low, gyro wasn't setup correctly, and I had a sticky tail bearing from the crash that was inhibiting the tail.
After reading and watching gyro setup vids from this and other forums, I figured out how to set it up properly. Man am I addicted. Every free second, I am working on the heli or reading. I haven't even had a decent hover yet or hover at all. I can't wait. I go and watch the experts and I can't believe what they can do. Even the 90's with all of the 3d is so impressive. All I want to do is hover. I'd be so thrilled to get it up in the air and just have it sit there in a relatively small area of 20 feet or so. I bought g4 simulator after crashing it, and have practiced and hour or more a day. I can now hover pretty good in the simulator with the trex 450 v2 and 600 nitro. I hope it will be the same when I do it on my own. But now, just to throttle up the blades makes my heart race. Well I hope to do it this weekend.

For the 401 gyro, when it is in HH mode and properly set up mechanically, you can cycle the rudder stick back and forth 3 times and the servo should position the blades at neutral (0 pitch).

Any chance of a video for the Futaba 7C PCM radio? Can I use the methods here for this Tx?

No.. Futaba menus are completely different.. but the concepts are the same.. Your best bet is the Finless videos.. hes uses the Futuaba 7 series radios which are all fairly close.. This video is only a supplement to the Finless video for those with the DX7..

Just to let people know, I just tested activating Swash Exp on the Swash Mix menu page. This was on an X9303, but it is also on the DX7 according to the manual (at least is is shown on the screen).
This adds some expo to the collective pitch motion to linearize the action. It works very nicely. Makes the collective more linear and less touchy. You do have to redo your setup if you activate. Subtrims may change ( with a arm swap I was able to get my Trex SE V1 setup with 0 subtrim)., and you will have to increase your Swash percentage. Mine went from 60 to 80% for the same pitch range on the head.

Friends,
I recently upgraded from a DX6 to a JR xp 9303 2.4. I have poured through this thread and wathced Finless Bob's Trex 500 video on the 9303 setup and they were a tremendous help.
I have a Trex 450 SE V1 with HS-65MG's on the cyclic/swash, Spectrum AR6000 RX and Futaba 401+9650 tail servo.
Got a chance to fly yesterday; all of the controls work fine except now the tail is waggin'. I checked the "GYRO SENS" menu and it is set to 74% on POS 0.
I checked the device setup menu and I "think" it is set-up correctly, but the tail still wags.
Photos are attached for reference. Any Ideas?
TIA to all for your assistance.

There is your problem. The Gyro sense menu ONLY works on channel 7 (aux2) on the X9303. It will NOT work on channel 5 GEAR. Thus you must use the Travel adjust for GEAR to adjust gain if you using a 6 channel RX.

Thanks Bob, that was it. I adjusted the GEAR settings to +32 & - 32 and the tail is holding strong now.

I want to thank both Finless and Jermo for their knowledge and dedication to this hobby. I am relatively new to it and want to jump up and start building them. The main way for me to learn is to do hands on but in order to do that it does significantly help to actually watch someone doing what you intend to do. Then after I have seen it done it makes it so much easier and understanding for me. If that makes sense. Regardless, I want to thank you and everyone else who offeres input!

Your gain will be LOWER on the DX7. Bob's video's are on the Futaba so the gain setting is different.
My DX7 Video doesn't change anything from Bob's video except the gain setting. In fact my video was made as an addon to Bob's to show the DX7 setup instead of the Futaba. It should be generally the same otherwise.
Other than the gain setting Bob's video is the authority if the two video's disagree. Let me know if i have error's in the Video. I'm long overdue to make the next version anyway.
Thank you so much for the great video. May I suggest that you explain some of the key terminologies in your video before you use them IMHO. Last year as a noob I did not understand about the gyro gain, how heading hold is different than normal rate mode etc. I do now but I am certain many noobes are very confused about the terms. Also if you can add a new section on the mix which I am now still a little confused on Prog mix1,2,3 and what you are able to accomplish with the different settings. Is this the only place on the menu you can set the mixes? I know this is the wrong thread to bring this up but I found only this thread has a DX7 instruction video and people with different helis are seeking help here. Aside from a 450 I also have a Blade CP, Sabre/Walkera 4#1 and 4#3 all with AR6100 mods running tail motors. After I finished my mod the tail motors kept on running at zero throttle. I figured out that PPM signal from the AR6100 is meant to run a servo tail which is normally initializes at 50 so changing a servo to a tail motor will result with a 50% throttle on the tail at zero throttle. My solution was to stop the motorized tail from running at below 10% throttle. I adjusted the Throttle>Rudd mix to -110% to stop the tail motor from running at below 10% throttle and it worked but I am confused how DX7 minus -110% translates to 10%. I really wish the functions of the DX7 setup can be explained in principles rather than a prescription (100-90-100 throttle stunt-1) in your video. I don't know why the 90 instead of a flat linear 100-100-100 that is just one of the many unexplained settings. If you noticed only a handful of people have responded on this thread. If my guess is right, most are confused on the terms (what rate mode is ...etc) and are too embarrassed or don't even know how to ask as I was last year.

Jermo:
Terrific video. I found it very helpful when I first got my DX7. Great_Life raises all sorts of interesting questions that need to be answered, but I would suggest that most of them deserve another video, rather than more elaboration of this one. So there's your next project (after the update of this one).
Thanks again.

Jermo,
First of all, thank you for making your DX7 video! It helped a lot.
If I may ask, though, WHY do you advocate using the GYRO SENS menu to set GYRO gain as opposed to setting the gain with the GEAR channel endpoints?
I asked many people on this and other forums about this and the replies were 100% in favor of using the endpoint adjustment to set gain.
Just curious. Maybe when you re-do your video, you could show BOTH methods and point out the pros and cons of each?
Thanks again!
