View Full Version : Clunk line question?

I just put a new clunk line in my Raptor 50, when I turn the tank upside down the line does not flex down so that the clunk touches the top of the tank. It is not that the line is getting hung up on the back of the tank it is that the fuel line is too stiff, it holds the clunk up about mid tank.

Will the line soften as soon as I fuel it up? Or do I need to get different fuel line to use?

Thanks,
Jeff

Clunk line!? I thought nitro flying had been cancelled.

However, they do make some very pliable fuel line that's perfect for that application. It'll take years for the fuel line to soften, and then it'll be time for a new one.

Try Hayes fuel line , it's very flexable ,, It also streaches after a tank or two so cut it 1/2" short

Here ya go , And yes with it soaking in 30% fuel it will soften(if fact totaly fall apart over time ) , Thats why we use the hayes black it's made from a diffrent rubber compound.

Nitro flying is alive and well. Thanks for the quick reply, I will try some of the Hayes line and see how that works.

Actually, I have an old X-Cell 60 sitting in my garage. I wish there was a nearby field where I could fly it.

Jeff the Hayes line will turn your fuel an ugly color for a tank or two but dont panic when you see it there's no problem and as someone said cut it 3 or 4 mm shorter than it looks like you need it will streach a bit then stabilize.

Actually the fuel does not bother the fuel line. Look at the line that runs to the bottom of your fuel jug. How many years has it been soaking in 30% nitro with no ill effects?
What does bother the clunk line and cause it to fall apart is the acid in the exhaust that gets into the tank from the muffler pressure. If you run a system that uses crankcase pressure instead of muffler pressure you will notice that the clunk line will last almost forever. Or do like I do and store the heli with a full tank of fuel to keep the acid off the fuel lines.
