Esky CP2, my first cp heli and just learning to hover in garage. When and how do I switch to "idle up"? Do I even need to use this switch now, or only when 3-D? If I do "idle up" will the heli fly up or stay at same height with more rpm. Just curious and want to learn all I can.

Idle up is for 3D when NOT on the ground. It will change your throttle curves so when you are in Idle up mode low throttle STICK is full negative pitch on the blades with full throttle to the motor, likewise full throttle stick is full positive pitch on the blades with full throttle to the motor, mid stick is usually zero pitch with a lower motor/head speed.

When just hovering and general flying you will likely want to stay in normal mode.

So I guess I won't use it for awhile, at least not on purpose! BTW do you know of any good books on helis, flying, basics etc. I'm just learning by flying and going slow. Luckily have had only minor crashes with CP2 vs. when I bought my Blade CX. The little CX was a quick confidence booster, but the CP2 really puts me in my place-scary!

Jermo,
Thanks for info, this weekend I took the CP2 out for some outdoor hovering as the wind was maybe 1knot, the fronds on the palm trees were not even swaying. First I took out my Blade CX, did 8s, FF etc, and even with virtually no wind (1 knot) the thing barely had enough power to fly and even with small gust it was all over the place. So out came CP2, hovered 2 batt packs no prob, then wind up to 3-4knots and I chickened out-NO CRASH! Still have training gear on and plan to keep them on for awhile! Hover coming along and will check out RADD.

AWESUM!! if you hovered that long you're doing very well. You will probably be able to skip the first several parts of RADD since they are on the ground.

I switch to idle up on the ground myself... give her a few light negative pumps and GO!

Yeah Baby! :YeaBaby:

Not a beginner suggested practice.
