Can anyone tell me what the most popular tail servo is at the moment on a Vario Heli?
I use JR kit and I think that a spare DS8700G that I`ve got may be a little over the top.
I`m going to using Sky Fox mechanics going into firstly a Sonic fus and then into one of the smaller sized CF Airwolfs.(2008)

an 8700 is the JR tail servo of choice. why do you think it's over the top?

I`ve got one on my T Rex 600.
Possibly a bit too fast?
A had a feeling that a high torque servo rather than a fast one was required for a scale heli. :dontknow

For scale, high torque over speed is the current thing. You do not need .9 speed on a scale heli. However, the bigger the scaler and tail blades, and tail blade count, you need torque to move them.

So what JR metal geared Digitals do you and the guys over your way use at the moment on say something like the smaller CF Airwolf?

We have not been using digital servos for the tail. We have been using anything from a Futaba 9202 on the small stuff, to the 9206 on the larger fuses. Like i said, speed is not the issue. The 9206 is 130 oz of torque at .19, which proves to be fine. We have a few guys using the new Airtronics servo on the fenestrons.

I've flown using both of these servos as well. I really like the 9206 on the fenestron tailed helis. My UH 1D (Benzin) and Airwolf (Sky Fox) both are using 9202 on cyclic but I've switched my tail servos to 9254's.
I agree with Joe, the speed is really not needed for scale flying, I'm just using the servos because they came with the gyros. Since I switched to scale blades on the tail of my Benzin I've considered switching tail servos for something with a little more torque.
