Gday ,

i race high nitro boat motors (70%) and am getting into glow helis , it amases me how many people run there motor , then throw the heli in the trunk and leaving the engine/bearings full of nitro fuel

the nitro fuel , left in the motor over time will rot the surface of the bearings , pitting them , and requiring a bearing change alot quicker than normal ..

after a days running we RUN at a fast idle a half a tank of 0%nitro fuel through the motors and then a squirt of Auto Trans fluid thru the carb , then she is ready for storage .

just thought id share this with you to help your heli motors run longer , harder and better .

the idea is running the NO nitro fuel after a day out , physically burns the nitro out of the bearings and then the squirt of ATV oil then Bathes the bearings coating it with a water dispersing coating that keeps the bearings cleaner longer ...

when you go to run again , get the motor right up to temp and allow the engine to spit the unburnt oil out the crank case before you do any risky flight stuff, around a 2 minuite hover should see the temp rise inside the engine enough to get the after run oil and fuel out completely

after that fly on as usual ...

i just thought i would share this with you
may your bearing run better longer and more efficiantly
Have a great day
Jason

I know what you mean. I race rc boats and when we finish for the day, I run all the fuel out of it, then I flush the engine out with WD-40, then in goes the ATF. My R-50 doesn't seem to need the "after run ritual". I just burn all the fuel out of it and put it in the car. Now if I was going to store it for a period of time, I would do the "ritual" for sure.

I drain the tank and hook up the glow and burn all of the fuel out of the engine trying to start it again.

I then remove the plug and put after run oil in and turn it over some more.

I believe OS says not to put any after run down the carb but I forget why.

CoolPower 30% heli fuel says Do NOT add after run oil.

I wonder why???

maybe chemical reaction to the lubricants.

It says on the gallon that it already has synthetic lubricants in it and to Not use after run oil.

I sprayed WD40 in the engine after a run to check if I stuck a ring or something, and it 'bubbled' up and didn't look too good.

So if I had to guess, I'd guess it's a chemical reaction to 'most' after run oils mixing poorly with the synthetic lube?

Heh, I've never known anyone to run their engines out after flying. Although, I've only been in the game for 3 months now, theirs about 15 pilots I've seen fly, and none have run their engine out after a day of flying. Although, I'm not saying I think anyones wrong for doing it. I just haven't done it. However if I know it will give my engine more life, I'll gladly do it.

I don't drain the tank,
I don't run it dry,
I don't add oil,
All I do is Fly and hope it doesn't fry

(25 years +and have never had a bearing fail that I thought was due to lack of oil or rust from storage)

I had to re-ring and piston my OS 1.08 cause I forgot to put after run oil in it and it sat for a year. This was with omega fuel.

Not putting some type of after run oil in the engine seems strange. Nitro is corrosive. It needs some type of base to neutralize it.

i don't know......

I had a 46 in the attic for 5 years , It is humid here(understatement)it will still run today. In fact I have many oldies sitting out in the garage that are fine.
Never have used "afterrun-oil" , I keep them clean and try to use good fuel through a good filter.I use a air filter if I'm in a dusty area.

I know I've had good luck , and am not saying it's the best way,,,,

Works for ME

It rots rubber O rings.

The bearings are at the uphill end of the engine and I find it hard to believe that a couple drops of after run will go up there and do any good. I don't use it. I just shut the fuel off and light the glow and crank the engine till it's good and dead.
