View Full Version : A dx7 , Airtronics 94758z's a 611 an whole heap of worry ...

ok so i was watching some szabo 600 vids.

real cool pilot. wow i though to myself , i would like that servo power and speed to pop to a stop like he does , i cant get it with slower less powerfull servos ..

and ordered some 94758z's and 450 bucks later ive got myself some really nice servos ,
but they are too big for the frame , custom standoffs later and they fit under the canopy just ....

when i got ready to do the final wiring on this new rex , i pulled them out of the box and found they have the shortest leads in history ... and a big warning sticker NOT to lengthen the leads on them ..(why?)

then i find out that i need a duralite reg to run em as they are powerhungry beasts ....another 100$ later ive got a great reg to go with my servos ,

cool i thought , ill just have to mount the rx on top at the rear of the head , (not what i wanted either)
so the servos are all sweet ,

now the esc wires dont reach unless i do a strait line run at the rx .
so i get the esc to sort of fit , ( ill need to lengthen the esc wires i suppose .)

the i go to fit my 611 and the only place the amp will fit is on the side of the bird like the szabos (not what i wanted)
(the 611 amps leads are shorter than the airtronics servos ones !)

so we come to fitting the gyro sensor , and its got lead alright around 6 foot of it , enough to go around the bird twice ... %^^%!!!
so i have a huge bundle of wire with all the excess gyro sensor wire .

it all looks like a mess no matter how hard i try to clean it up ,

and im starting to think that ill have to cut everything off and make new leads for all the equipment ... move everything to better locations ..
then re-solder all longer leads strait onto the boards ..

i should have just got some hitech servos like on my other rex and itll all have fitted like bob's video ...

if you want airtronics servos be prepared for a sh-t fight to get them on ,
im in to deap to back out now , im gonna win here ,,,,9th round and counting
also if have a tail first dork itll smash my rx, gyro , amp ..

buyer beware
i am just frustrated and would like a link to some pics showing how others have done it , like some close ups on the szabo's current bird...

and does anyone know why i cant lengthen the Airtronics servos leads ??

Thanks
Jason

Can't you just use some servo extensions? I used 9650s on my Rex and had to made my own adapters. Was a real PITA. Even with those I had to use a couple of short extensions. I've never heard of a servo that can't use extensions. Makes no sense.

I had to use short 6" HD extensions from Futaba to make the S9451 fit. Not a big deal and the wire is heavy duty enoguh to handle the juice.

Dude it's tougher than I thought, being a Szabo. Try flying like he does and as low and you will see what hard is. Your problems are small compared to the over all picture.

I use the 758's and I use servo extensions. I also don't have an issue mounting the 611 in my Rex. I mounted it on to of the receiver on the rear plate between the frames so it's protected in a crash. the sensor is mounted on the boom clamp and wires are wrapped up neatly between the frames. The Airtronics servos mounted quite easily as well.

not trying to be a clone at all, athough he is a sick sick pilot ! ,
i would like that servo power and speed to pop to a stop
i wish to push the edge a bit harder , and need the response to go lower
besides he started too young and im now getting to old ..... for comp flying , i fly at home in my front padock with the river as a backdrop
when i started on planks i flew pretty sane , now i rip planks to pieces in the air and demand more preformance .. lol's
with good gear my flying is really coming along .

the real reason i bought em is .08 sec at 144 inch on 6V!! thats grunty speed

i will get some extensions for the two inches more i need to get the rx below and out of trouble ....
and will get it right ...

also when you are that low you got to look out for ground effect ...

the 611 was only a bitch if i left the rest of the gear at the length the factory leads are at ,
i needed the esc lead to be two inches longer and the 758's to be one inches longer and it would have been SWEET !!!

mounting the servos was not the big prob. but they are deeper than the other cheaper servos
i will be moving this gear to a safer spot.. thanks for all you guys help..

I have 758's now and I used Maxx Product's heavy gauge servo extensions. They work fine.

Like you said...do not use the stock Align BEC with 758's They will overheat it cause the BEC to shut down and that is VERY BAD!

i have some of the 758's in a bipe of mine. I prob have over around 3 feet of extensions to each one.

Hi

I've just order 3 758's for my 600. Do you think the new 6amp align bec would handle the current, or I'd rather switch to a branded regulator ? (I use a SGP on my .90, work fine, but is quite heavy also... maybe a duralite 'll fit better the trex600?)

thank's

ive gone duralite , its awsome

the align one may work , but i would prefer overkill , the duralite has been tested to 10amp burst kinda like binding all three servos to save ya helis ass one inch from the ground..

the align 6a would be much better than the 3a one..

ill get one for my fut servo bird.

Hi
mh.. ok , so I'll probably switch to a duralite one.
50$ more !

I've just tested the align one on my stratus, with 9451 all around, 611 9256 and TJpro, and the leds were moving while I was taking the heli by the swash, and the regulator went warm.

It should be enven worse with the airtronics!

Actually, they are rated 7,5 amps continious but they are tested to deliver 10 amps continious... I've been using the DL regs for years now with 0 problems!

Most digital servos draws appr. 1,5 amps when binding, so 3 servo's binding will "only" draw 4,5 amps.

Thanks for the clarification matey , it comes down to personal choise i suppose . i got my duralite before the 6A bec came out ...

so i had little choise as with the z's the 3a bec got real warm real quick
