Hey folks,
I am just rebuilding my Hawk Sport after crash. I remember when I put it together the first time that there was a contradiction in instructions somewhere.... I think I found it. Someone please confirm this:
Manual Page 6, Step 4 does not agree with Page 26, Step 39.
Page 6 indicates that the Bell Mixer has the "Long Ball" going one direction and in the instuctions on page 26 has Pushrod "I" connecting to the "Short Ball" not the Long Ball.
Can someone clarify this for me? Thanks !

That will give you more control power and collective range, less flybar aka stability, either way works.

Charlie,
I've flown it both ways. I didn't notice any difference... although I don't doubt that there is one... I'm just inexperienced. The way I have it set up now is short-to-short; long-to-long. I've done some FFF and even a couple rolls (my first ever) with it setup this way.
Doug,
Could you say that again? I'm having a hard time comprehending. From what you said, the choice affects both collective range and stability... right?
stl+lts = more collective range and less stability (for 3d?)
sts+ltl = less collective range and more stability.. (for FAI?)
Are there any interesting effects we could expect if we used two short balls or two long balls? I've been thinking of trying this just to see what happens.

Rob,
You have your Hawk set up correctly. Aditionally, the contradiction that I remember in the Hawk book was the washout unit being installed on the long balls on the inner ring of the swash, and some of the ARF's even came assembled that way. The washout unit's A links should attach to the short balls on the swash.

Here is Bart's post, makes sense to me:
Hey Rob...
All you had to do is mention the page numbers and I knew exactly what you were talking about.
I remember it like this...Short to long...long to short.
I had it setup incorrectly for almost a year.
So..
Long ball to short rod...Short ball to long rod.

With the s to L and L to s you get more pictch range by a few degrees. If you have one...check it out. :D
