are G3 models backward compatible to G2?

Hi all,

I am in a fix. I needed a sim - but cudnt afford a new one (and faster system for a new one). so bought a G2 from a seller here on HF. Now, i want to know if models made for G3 are backward compatible with G2? Or am i doomed to watever is there in G2?
