Guys,

I definitely have to dial my fan onto the engine for my Stratus due to the very rigid design but I was curious if you guys dial your Raptor 50 fans.

I have the Quick UK fan and have previously strived to get less than 0.001" as per the Stratus. I did it quickly last night and 0.002" was the best I could do, but today she seemed to vibrate a fair bit, possibly as a consequence of this and possibly something else. There was a vertical stabilizer vib and the fuel tank and exhaust both showed evidence of vibration.

I was going to have another go to get less then 1 tonight, but wondered what you guys are all doing. My Raptor manual doesn't mention dial gauging the fan, but its a habit I've got into anyway.

Any views?

Unfortunately even if you dial it there is no way to adjust it. I have never put the dial indicator on mine just to see what the run out is but it doesn't really matter anyway.

If you can't adjust it there is really no point IMO.

My fan is none of the all metal ones with the collet (and nut) and I've found that it can be anywhere up to 0.008" but if I persist (by rotating the fan - the pot luck method) I can sometimes get it down to 1 ish.

I just dialled it down to 0.001" just now - then put the clutch on top and tried to dial the rim of the roller bearing. What I found was that I had 8 thou. I then turned the clutch through 180 degrees and got 2 thou - so I stuck with that. Will see what its like at the field tomorrow.

I put a new clutch in the machine the other week and it was dragging badly. Tonight I also checked the main and feathering shaft and found them both to be slightly bent - so I've replaced them for new. Hopefully one way or the other I've cured the vib problem. Fingers crossed.

The one way is stamped. I'm not surprised that it runs out.

Keep the loctite off of the fan hub and bolt it all up and go fly.
