my 9254 servo was mounted on my tail of my raptor 50. have had several flights on it without problems, but noticed it was slow. also, when I try to turn the servo by hand(no current) I feel resistance.

I opened her up, and noticed oil on the gears, no more grease, but it's the little engine that is notchy/hard to turn.

probably there is some oil(using CP 15%) in my little servo engine.

Can I fix this? I've heard from some people to take out the gears and the bottom plate(leave the print and motor in it's casing) and put it in some denaturated alcohol(if this is the correct therm) so the oil wouldn't stick to the engine anymore, but it doesn't damage any components of the servo print. is this correct?

also, what is your solution to not have this problem again? do you put shoo goo somewhere, or just put the servo under the pitch servo in the front(but then CG isn't ok anymore)

thanks

The RC cars guys use a motor cleaner spray that would clean out the motor. Then re-oil the bearings.

As for keeping the oil out, you need to seal the case, with tape or with some form of caulk, like goop or silicone.

Just learned on "modelbouwforum" that some members use alcohol to clean pot contacts (just by putting the servo in a glass of alcohol, with an opened case clearly).
this might also work for oil in the servo motor.
You should not have to worry about shortcircuiting (I've run-in some brushed engines in water ;))
But with everything, you might try to send it in, is it really worth risking a crash?

The oil gets in the servo where the output shaft comes out of the case. The output shaft has a rubber seal on it. But with it rotating all the time, oil will wick in over a period of time.
That is why it is best to mount all the servos under the canopy if possible to keep them out of the exhaust as much as possible.
I have only seen boom mounted servos on a nitro heli get oil inside them.

I've put the servo without gears or backplate in some denatured alcohol, and let the motor run left and right by turning the pot meter.

I hope the problem is fixed now. I'll let you know how it goes(some people here in Belgium have allready done it apparantly without issues)
