Hi,

First post and it's a gloomy one.

I'm have just completed a Swift and I have got to the stage where I've run it up to check the blade tracking etc.. I have used about half a charge from a 6s1p Flight power battery pack in setting up. I suppose the motor has had about 15 minutes running at just below take off speed.

It was nice and calm today, so I thought I would try a first flight. I set it all up and got ready. I gave the throttle the smallest amount to get the blades spinning. As I did so there was a pop from the controller and the thing caught on fire. It rapidy reduced the front of the swift to a charred mess.

The controller was a Phoenix 80, I don't think it will be rising from it's ashes. The motor was a NEUmotor 1907/1.5Y and the battery was a Flightpower 6s1p.

Looking at the spec. for the controller, it's only rated to 25V and I wonder whether this was a factor.

There were no mis-connections, nothing shorting, it just went pop.

Anyone else heard of this, please?

Best Regards,

Phil M

It happens and its a sad fact that not everything is perfect. Only today i heard that someone's rex 600 caught fire in the air, believe it was the esc too. I have had 3 fail since getting into this hobby- Dosent seem to matter the brand either, but in context the failures are low when you look at how many are in use. Sorry to hear about your misfourtune, why not get in touch with the manufacturer or retailer and see what the say? No harm in that.

philiusm,

You didn't say if you were using an external BEC or not. The CC80 is rated for 6s, but you can't use the built-in BEC. If you are using the internal BEC, then the max is 3s.

I have had two (2) two CC Phoenix 35's go up in smoke. I will tell you this, its customer service is second to none. Both were replaced free of charge, no questions asked, no hassles. I deal with a gentleman named Bob Ford, who goes the extra mile. Good luck. FM
