View Full Version : TJ Pro setup.... What's with the 100% ATV thing?

I just ordered a TJ Pro for my Hawk (os32). My throttle servo ATV is currently set to -65, +65. Do I really need to reset my linkage so that I can run -100+100? This part of the instructions just doesn't make sense to me. I mean, the TJ "should" be able to interpret my endpoints from the calibration phase.

BTW, I'm using an 8103 if that matters.

I am just guessing here, but because I have passed many exams in my life by mostly guessing I guess :lol: I'm qualified to answer. The TJ will in fact find your endpoints if you don't have +- 100% ATV. The instructions suggest that you get your ATVs as close to 100% as possible which means, of course, that they don't have to be exactly 100%. I guess the my last statement isn't a guess. Now here come my guesses and I have two of them either or both may or may not be correct. My first guess is that since the TJ uses a RPM calculator, the calculator may be more accurate if your ATVs are at 100%. My second guess is since the TJ is probably a digital sort of thing with a finite number of different possible throttle positions, its position accuracy may be better with 100% ATV.

As you may be able to tel,l it is early Saturday morning and still too dark to fly or mow the grass so I have a little extra time for guessing. If you are reading this and it's too dark out to do any flying or mowing I suggest that you move your throttle servo link ball one hole in which will most likely put your end point ATVs very close to 100% which is where most people suggest it be in the first place.

BTW I'm sure the fine people at Micro Avionics have the real answer and would be happy to share it with you. Please let me know if I didn't guess the real answer.

I'm one of those guessers myself. I like the RPM calculator issue you mentioned. I'll explore that when I install it. I put the ball out on the end in order so that the throttle servo doesn't have so far to move... ie. faster.

If that turns out to be the issue, I'll write a new RPM calculator that accepts the ATV value(s) as a parameter.

There's nothing I can do about the other thing. ... So if that's the issue, then I guess I'll move the ball in. However the TJPro handles super servos, so it likely has plenty of resolution.

rpm calc...w/ my 8103 I found the calcs pretty far off. for 8.45 ratio, I'm running 60% to get around 1820rpms

I gave up on putting the TJ in the Hawk... Now going into the Extreme...

The instructions say set it up as close to 100% as possible. I can use either 90%-90% or 112%-112%. So the difference here is just one hole on my throttle arm.

Given the options of 90 ATV or 112 ATV, which should I pick?

Should I avoid going above 100% on my ATVs with the TJ?

I just replied to this over on RR, but I'd go with 90% so the servo which will make the servo move less for the same throttle movement. It's like getting a faster servo that way.

By the way, the throttle endpoints won't have any effect on the RPM calculations... they're only used to keep the throttle from driving beyond the stops and binding. Everything RPM related comes from the aux channel.
