I was wondering how the frey evo 90 compares to other 90 size helis? I have a trex 450 se and I want to get a big heli. I have been looking at several helis, even a bergen gas heli. But was wondering if anyone can help with true comparisons because they have flown other helis and the evo 90. Also I was wondering about the ease of getting replacement parts and aftermarket parts.

Replacement and upgrade parts are no problem. Ricks and Helipoz keep them in stock.
It is a solid feeling machine with no bad tendancies. It is not as agile as some of the other models but for $620 you cannot go wrong.

Thanks, Ive had a hard time trying to make up my mind. There are so many good helis out there that is nice to get advice from people who have been flying longer than me. Ive never heard of Ricks before, but Heli proz has been a great help with my trex. I was also wondering what people are running for an engine and gyro in their evo?
Thanks again SteveL for the help

I won't knock the EVO or any other heli, but I would suggest you also check at the local field to see what others are flying. Not to say you have to follow the crowd, but you will probably get more (and better) help if you are flying a machine that the other guys are familiar with.

Going from a T-Rex to a 90 is a fun experience. The machines are so much bigger and more stable, IMHO.

Enjoy,

Ron

C-spec w/ cline and big bore for power
9252 servos
GY611 Gyro (would probably go with the logictech 6100 if I were to do it today)

Make sure you consider the cost of a crash. A 90 is more expensive to fix than a 50 and it is not all that much bigger.

I have a Raptor 50 w/kasama head that I thrash regularly and a freya evo that I'm afraid to fly due to reported failures of the one-way. The build on the freya is amazingly easy! awesome plastics molding! The solution for the one-way is supposed to be shipping soon. The 600mm class helis are just cheaper to fly and less worrysome if(when) you crash.

The trex I have is cheap to crash Ive done that a few times. But Ive always been told bigger birds are more stable and I wont have to wait for batteries to charge like the elctrics. I also have a swift from Century with a 600 plus motor but the battery pack is pricy. Also if the battery is damaged in a crash there is no way to replace the bad cell, you are out a whole expesive pack not tomantion the cost of a new charger just for 6s1p or 6s2p packs. One of the guys at my local hobby shop likes the caliber 5 from kyosho for a 50 size. He was sayng that the kit is only 350.00 and its push pull and comes with a muffler and carbon blades. So I guess that is always an option especially since Kyosho is in so cal so parts shipment would be quick. But kyosho isnt known for having cheap replacement parts on other thing like thier 1/8 scale buggies, they always want a small fortune for thier stuff. Thanks for the imput more to think about before I get off the pot so to speak.

There's an EDIT link in the upper right of your postings. Don't be afraid to go back and correct your mistakes. I do it all the time.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. They echo mine (and I'm sure many others). A 90 heli is cool. It is bigger and easier to see. Plus it usually flies better in wind. The 90 heli costs more to buy, parts are more expensive, and you can easily burn up a gallon of fuel every day.

Keep doing your research and you may someday find one that's right for you. Me? I like them all and have been so impressed with the quality of my Hirobo Lepton that I want a Hirobo 90 next :glasses2:

You can pretty much double the cost of a 50 crash for a 90. But, I seriously disagree that it in not much bigger. The feel a lot bigger in the air an musle though manuevers much easier.
The EVO 90 builds just like the rest of the Hirobo line. Everything just fits.
As long as Carbon Extreme keeps the EFX kit available, you can always update it down the road.
I would not recomend that until you are into some serious 3D

I love my Evo 90. I have a Trex 450 CDE and a Gohbee Stinger 30. I also had a Xcell 60 SE that flew very good but it was really expensive and more than I was ready for at the time I bought it. I think the Evo 90 is probably one of the best flying heli's for the price. Personally I would work up to a 90 size as the cost of crashing can really break the bank. I started on a .30 size heli and became proficient, I got the Trex for dinking around the backyard and taking on the road with me (I'm a long haul trucker) to keep in practice. Then I got the Freya 90 and I am extremely pleased with it. Flies like it's on rails, but I still think if your a newbie of sorts, go with a 30 size first, just my 2 cents worth. try www.gohbee.com they also have a nice 50 size heli for the price.

Moved and lost internet service took a while to set up. I have a trex 450 se I crashed tonight practicing going from nose in to tail in hover in a gust of wind (brain fart). But I finally made my desicion to by a 90 size bird. Iam now an owner of a freya 90 with a pumped os c-spec, muscle pipe, vblades, and a logictech gyro. I do have to say that the 90 size bird feels much more locked in in a breaze that the t-rex. go figure (sarcasim). I practice mostly with the trex and once Ive figured it out then I fly the 90. Thanks for the input all.

Congratulations, the Freya is a good heli, I have one too.

But did you try a simulator, I practice all my moves on the simulator, and the I go for the field. I works great and you can get some god reaction stimulation on the
simulator.

I was in the same situation...only flying a t-rex 450se and i now have the opportunity to have a freya sst(kit, no engine or electr) for free!...But my preoccupation is for the parts when i'll crash and the cost of the fuel. That is why i choosed the 600N, but today i went to my club and the guys there told me to choose the freya with no questions....confused again!

You got to get what you can live with, i.e. can you get a ready supply of parts, can you aford the extra cost of fuel, what do you want to do with the heli, hard 3d or just have some fun.

Well guys, i made the move and just had my Evolution SST today. I am dreaming! The generous person that gave me the kit sold me an OS91 (almost new, just the breakin done) for a very good price including the pipe. I just need gyro, servos and couple of things and i'll be in the air soon with the machine. Now i need to be carefull not to crash...often! :?
