View Full Version : Any alternatives for a Futaba GY401+S9254 Tail Servo

I know everyone swears by the GY40401+S9254 combo, but I'm worried about feeding the servo 6 volts and shortening the t/r servo life. Are there any alternatives to the GY401+9254. I prodded Loopzilla about this and he suggested a work around but didn't ask for any alternative setups.

I should say that I dont want to get rid of the GY401 but Im looking for an alternative to the S9254 without adding more weight/wiring to the heli.

The 401 is perfectly fine with "regulated" 6.0 volts, the key word is regulated. However the Futaba 9254 would not do well with 6.0 volts, its' highest continuos rating is 5.3 volts. An excellent and cheaper option servo and very often overlooked is the Hitec 6965S here are the specs: Best of all it can "safely" handle 6.0 volts with zero issues :)

I went with the LogicTech 2100 gyro on my Logo 10 with a HS-81 servo, works great, have gain down to %35, but still need to tweak it a little.

It's smaller and lighter than the 401. But, it's not a digital servo, but can be set up with one.

Guys one more question, if I decide to stick with the s9254 can I use a stepdown like the one in the Align 600 kit to preserve my s9254?

Beware:

LTG-2100T Operating Voltage: 4.5-5.5V
LTG-6100T Operating Voltage: 4.5-6.0V

Micro yes you can use the stepdown if you decide to run 6volts to your other servos on swash.

Bobby,

I thought (at first) that it was just me on the piro rate, the tail seems SO fast!!

Anyway, can't wait to hear the results from a more experienced pilot, with a direct swap on a Logo!

Thanks!

Hye n/p Wayne

The 2100T holds great wiht a 9254 and it is a few oz lighter i just got to work out a few thingsfor my preferance the piro rate is jusinsane and it is very accurate whent stops it stops alittle to hard a couple times it sounded like it ws ripping out the tail pulleys
I got it to stop alot softer i got to get some more time on it

Sounds like it needs a 3D mode vs a F3C mode like a 611 to prevent the harsh stops on piros..... are you adding in some delay somehow or how are you able to cushion the stops other than your finger management?

OK here is what i have found so far the 2100t wiht the 9254 seems to reset it self when flying very hard and goes into a slow piro BUT!! iam thinking the 9254 might be going bad becuase i have seen this same thing before when a tail servo is goign bad other then that it works Flawless!!

2nd L10 iam running 2100t wiht the 6100 logitech servo all i can say is it works Flawless!!!will ttry to shoot some video this weekend coming up

N/P i would be very curious to see how it would work wiht a 9650 in a L10 as well i think a 2100t and a 9650 would be a good solid combo
