Dual drive = two motors driving the TR via gear reduction. Can make your heli tail heavy, but motors are reported to last longer since they're splitting the work. Larger TR, lower revs. Stock motors work fine for 3S LiPo..
Direct Drive - one motor connected directly to the tail rotor. No gear reduction. Smaller prop, faster revs, better response time (IMO) Need the high voltage version of the tail motor for 3S LiPo use. Direct drive can eat tail motors pretty quick if you're running too large a prop. a GWS 30/30 or even a 30/20 works pretty good. I cut down a 4530 prop to 3.75" and tail motors get pretty warm, but don't cook themselves.

Rudderman,
I have tried both the dual tail and Direct Drive set up.
I like the Direct Drive the best. If you look at bladcprepair, it has great photos and step by step instructions on how to do the mod. If you go with that mod, use the GWS CN12-RXC motor and you will be fine. I used the 4530 prop as is and have had no problems.
I have 9.5 hours of flight time on my DD motor and it flies like new.
