Hi All. Hopefully we'll get this FAA thing sorted out. I have a question. Who has used the Royal Evo 9 or 12 channel Tx's for AP???? I haven't found a whole lot on them as I've just started researching a new Tx. I'm a little intrigued by the fact that the joysticks can be swapped for several other supplied models including a rocker or push-button switch! FIRE!!! ahhhhh click I mean. I'm looking for a Tx that's going to do it all. Lots of sliders for future pan/tilt etc. How is the heli programming in this TX?
Love to get some input here.

I have a Royal Evo 12. Used it some for my raptor, with long sticks and a push-button on the right stick to fire the camera.
A very versatile tx. Easy to set up. Just sad they don't use pcm, if they did I'd still use it, but I mostly fly gasser now and that engine don't go well with ppm.
-If you'd like pcm, with the same or better versatility, check up on Graupner Mc22 or 24. Mc,not Mx.

The EVO has a dedicated following, mostly in Europe I think, and is renowned for its flexibility. If all goes well you will be able to use it on 2.4GHz and eliminate the PPm concerns: http://xtremepowersystems.net/. Their system is fully bidirectional so they are including telemetry and have discussed a future upgrade to integrate a video downlink. Latest rumour for release is March/Apr.

XPS are also talking about releasing their own Tx including a 16ch model but that's probably a year away.

Nomadio have announced a new range of 2.4GHz spread-spectrum air radios (they have an established R/C car range using 2.4GHz spread spectrum) including a 16ch/colour touch screen/mp3 player/all-singing/all-dancing super deluxe model. Might be just the ticket. They have mentioned Dec 07 as their target release date.

don't forget Futaba recently announced a 2.4 GHz radio. Unfortunately I only see a 6 ch version on their web site.

Yeah that kinda pisses me off. Why don't they just make a module so I can pull the synth module out of my 9C and drop in the new 2.4 ghz??

Why would I want a whole new radio again, and surely a 6 channel one is useless to all of us.

The reason you might want to consider a new radio is because of how th esignal gets to the transmitter module. With the new dedicated systems like the new Futaba and the DX7, it is an all digital path and all the servo signals go out at the same time. With the "plug-in" module upgrades the 2.4GHz Tx module is likely to get a serial PPM stream, which sends the signals out one servo after another. The exception might be whatever Futaba ends up doing for the 12/14MZ. With the G3 2048-bit receivers the Tx will send three servos at a time. You can not only feel the difference, but you can see it as well. The response just feels quicker. My DX7 feels the same.

What I would really like to see is a dedicated 9-10 channel system that can bind/drive two receivers at a time, like the 14MZ can do with two G3 receivers. Oh, and a slider for the AP-2000i cal/gain function would be nice as well. :) Until then I will continue to use a DX7/AR7000 combo for the helis, and a converted Optic 6 with an AR6000 for the camera/mount controls. I have the DX7 and Optic 6 mounted side-by-side on a tray.

KGFLY, I got an Evo 9. WoW ! This baby's got enough sliders (2)and programmable rotary wheels(2)and 3 pos. switches(4) and 2 pos toggles(2) and pushbuttons on sides (2) and switches on a joystick of your choice!!!!! Too many more features to mention......but I will. Tx with synth. mod.( no dials.. all in software). RF safety on power-up. Servo monitor onscreen display and..... Ta-Dah. You know doing AP we have to check our frequency right? It's not 2.4 gig but it's got the scanner module coming and onscreen display of all frequ's signal strength!!

I gotta go get a towel.

NOOO. Don't get the synth module, scanner and synth Rx, get a either a Spektrum JR 9ch Tx module + Rx or XPS/XL 10ch Tx module + Rx and you will be in RF heaven.

There is a thread on rcg by vantasstic showing how he Spektrumised his EVO9 using the RF board from a DX6. The only issue was it limits him to 6ch, but he has never needed any more. Now with the Spektrum and XPS option you can have all the programmability of your EVO tx plus all the benefits of 2.4GHz spread spectrum for the full 9ch.

The XPS modules will be on sale by the Toledo show in mid-April. The Spektrum probably won't be in LHS until June.

Have fun with your new toy!

Kenneth, W.T.F. ? :?: Where were you when I was pressing the 'purchase' button ? :?: Too late. TX and 9ch Hitec Fusion 9 are here and programming begun. :) I'll be testing with a TREX  then move on to the SWIFT helicam. The scanner module is also on its way. Too late :dontknow . Maybe I'll upgrade with a SS module later. Until I do I 'll have a Tx that is also a 72 Mhz frequ. scanner and one killer Tx at that.

Well the good news is that you are using products that can really be ordered and delivered, which certainly isn't true of either the Spektrum or XPS modules so at least you can fly and have fun :D
