I hav owned this helifor some time now and still have some questions. I have a Hacker A30-10XL motor, CC 80 ESC, 401 gyro and Hitec HS-81 servos. I need to know what else I need to run 2 3s 2500 lipos in series on it. This is my second ESC because I burnt out the first one which was a Jazz 40-6-18 (Which was not cheap). Do I need to get a seperate BEC and a Voltage reg to do this? If so what type and size? I am unsure about this and do not want to make te same mistake twice. I appreciate any help in advance.

Yep, you sure do need a seperate bec. There are 2 ways to do this, you can get a UBEC that is powered off the main battery, or use a totally seperate system like the align. It is nice because it has a voltage indicator built in, but you need to use a seperate 2S lipo. not sure if there is enough room on the EP-8.

The reason you blew your Jazz wasn't cause of current it was to much voltage. The 40-6-18 is 5S max. The CC80 will work, just make sure you disable the bec by cutting the red wire in the connector that goes to your radio, or it will smoke too. You don't need that big of a ESC on that setup, but it will work.

According to the sticker on the Jazz 40-6-18 it is rated for 6-25V: http://www.kontronikusa.com/brushlessesc/konm3100-main-3.jpg

6S lipo is max 25.2V. I have definitely seen the 40-6-18 promoted as "up to 6S lipo" with it's built-in switched-mode BEC being 6S-capable being seen as a big advantage. Are you certain it is unsuitable for 6S lipo operation ?

The CC80 will fly this heli fine, but you will need a separate BEC. Sorry to hear about your Jazz failure.

I was at the Spartanburg Heli event yesterday and enjoyed watching Harold and his QJ guys fly. I bought a QJ8 to compliment my Lepton as a mid-size bird. I was very impressed with the quality of this machine and hope to have it flying in a week or so.

I'll post some photos as soon as I get back to my broadband connection.

Take care,
