Hi Everyone,

I am totally new to flying helicopters and I recently same across this ad where someone was selling a heli for a reasonably good price.

I would like to seek everyone's advice on this heli and please use simple terms to explain because when I was reading through some of the threads, I could only understand half of what was being said :P

First of all, the make of the heli is SANWA.
The model is a KALT MERCURY.

These are the "specs." of the chopper (225.00USD)
- Futaba FP G154 Rate Gyro (Japan)
- Sanwa 7 Channel 35 Mhz Receiver w/crystal (Japan)
- 5 x JR NES-511 Servo (Japan)
- OS Max SX 61 Nitro Engine (Japan)
- Fuel tank
- Fibre glass main blades 680mm
- Fibre glass canopy

Also included is a accessory pack which I have to fork out a small amount of cash for it (125.00USD)
- high torque starter
- starter shaft
- 90% gallon of 30% nitro
- new glow plug
- glow heater with charger
- new bearings and con-rod for OS61 engine
- 1300mah nimh batt for rx
- manual fuel pump

Please let me know if the chopper is worth 225.00USD and if the accessory pack is worth 125.00USD.

Also, being a TOTAL newbie, with NO prior knowledge at flying planes nor choppers, is this a good machine to start from, or would I be likely to crash it easily??

And the specs. of the heli, is it good? As in, is it durable and can last me many years, or are they sub-standard or something?

Thanks in advance!

Gerald

DONT GO THERE !!!! its a fossil , you'll never get spares for the heli , haven't been made for years ,,,

It's probably OK for a collector , but definitely NO GOOD for a TOTAL newbie !!!

Sorry !!

A Fossil?

Okay... But when was this made? In the year 2000 or something?

What other newer, more popular and affordable gas helis are there available today?

maybe before that ;) Not sure... but you should be able to pick up a Raptor 50 or something like that cheap over there in Singapore.

Kalt went out of business sometime in the mid 90's. So it's been at least 10 years since it was made.

And by the way, they are ALL easy to crash! What's important is the availability of spare parts. The Mercury could have been the greatest, easiest to fly chopper of all time, but if you can't get parts it's just a fancy paperweight. Even if you don't crash it, parts still wear out and break on their own.

I can't speak for what's popular in Singapore, so go to some local flying fields and see what everybody there is flying. It may not be the best on the market, but being able to get help from local flyers is the most valuable thing when you're just starting out. Maybe one of them will even have a machine for sale at a good price!
