Do you know any other details about his setup? Was he running the Scorpion 4525-520LE with that ICE 120HV? TP 65C batteries? (I'm trying to get everything in order for when the kit ships...)

I think Bobby is using the bls256 tail servo. It's HV like the 255's.

At Huntville it was the 4035-500. He's been running some different combinations trying to maximize setup.

At HOD he had the 4525-520 bolted in. Slight canopy rub with that motor but nothing a dremel with a sanding drum cannot take care of. Yes anything he flies does look good.

Here is a video from HOD.

Bobby Watts can make any heli look good. I want to see it in the hands of an amateur pilot.

Ditto! :D

Anyone seen the Flybared E-Whiplash fly yet?

Cheers,

Tom, we did the testing of the Flybarred whiplash in private, as nearly all of our Team Members feel that FBL is far more impressive, and we feel that the vast majority of people who buy the Whiplash will choose the FBL version, based on our Furion 6/Fury 55 sales. I will say, the Flybarred head flies much like the Fury 55/Furion 6 flybarred head.

Thanks for the reply Brian. I'd like to hear more of what you testers thought about the whiplash FB'd head. Like, how does it preform compared to the the current Ion-x/Stratus head? I'd like to think that between the larger spindle, metal grips, and direct drive cyclic servos that this new head is more responsive. But it's hard to believe that you can improve the current Stratus fb'd head significantly since it's already so good.

I saw Bobby Watts fly a 12s flybarred Ion-x2 a few years ago at Coff's Helifest and again this year with a 12s FBL whiplash. Just my opinion but I think he flew the Ion-x2 much more agressively/better. Maybe because the whiplash was still in prototype-testing stage (and also did not have too many more spares!).

You may be correct that most new Whiplash guys will go FBL but I think that there are a lot of us older MA guys who still love a good FB'd MA 90 sized heli.

I go back and forth between FB/FBL and 10-15s quite a bit on both my Ion-x's. To date I think that high voltage systems (14-15s) offer just about as much performance improvements to a 90 E-heli (my Ion-x's anyway) without the complications associated with current fbl systems. On the other hand, my 600 sized E-heli's always seem to perform much better with FBL and 10-12s. Not really sure why?

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to seeing a FB'd E-Whiplash fly sometime soon (or at least a video).

Thanks again Brian for your usual quick and honest replies.

Best cheers,
TomC

Will any flybar Whiplashs be at IRCHA?

Will any flybar Whiplashs be at IRCHA?

No, Unfortunately not. All of our team pilots greatly prefer FBL. I will bring a FB head with me, if you would like to have a look at it though.

Yikes Brian, That does not fill me with much confidence about how much testing and fine tuning the FB head has had or it's actual performance.

eightythree, there are some very good pictures of the FB head at;

http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=303730

The head looks great and the only ?'s I have about it are; why the flat flybar carrier (thought an angled one gave you more +/- collective potential) and why the angled top pitch link lever. Also, does not look to be very adjustable like current MA 90 heads are.

You can look at these, or any head, as long as you like but the proof is seeing and flying them imho.

Cheers,
TomC

Is this heli EVER going to release this summer or do you need to change your add to Landing Sometime In 2011.

I know the wait must be killing a few people! It's killing me too! I'm really excited about the Whiplash!

But you know what Miniature Aircraft are like.. They are not going to release crap. Or rush a product to production if it's not ready.

When MA feel the time is right they will release it.

and when it is released... It will be a masterpiece!

Hi,

Bobby made awesome flights at the 3DM after party in Middenmeer :)

Lucky me, i could take a video of one of the flights ( unfortunatly flying the tail a bit close to the ground in the end, but nothing bad and damn, the machine is solid !)

Nice pics! Do the batteries just strap in, or is there a tray?

So I noticed in one of the gasser Whiplash 90 pics floating around that the tail servo is mounted in the rear.. yet it's mounted in the front for the electric... Looking at the pictures above, it looks like there's space for mounting in the rear on the 90.

What was the thought behind putting the tail servo in the front on the electric? (I'd personally prefer to avoid the extra linkage due to the front mounting...)

It may have been that way to balance the heli. The gasser engine is heavier so hence why.

Folks,

Here is a link to some footage of the Flybarred Whiplash being flown by David Nolan at a display in Northern Ireland today. Lovely looking machine in some good hands. Sorry the picture quality is not better.

As the Worlds first Whiplash owner all I have to say is HELP! LOL
MA you guys have done an awsome job on this heli and winning it at IRCHA on my birthday was a bit overwelming. It took about 12hrs for it to sink in that I was the proud new owner. I am a newbie who has been flying a 450 for a couple months now and am going through my orientation practice now.
As this is over my head in technology at this momment I will hopefully be getting some assistance with this heli from a local flyer. I will also be getting in touch with Bobby Watts for setup tips. Thank you so much MA for your dedication to have this ready for IRCHA.

My custom boom!
