View Full Version : Trick Question: Servos - What is faster - Speed or Torque?

I just read an article about Danny Szabo's setup on his Trex600. He prefers the Futaba S9351 over S9451 because the S9351's are "quicker in the air".

Here's the catch: The S9351s are a slower servo, but with more torque. Here are the specs:

S9351: 152 oz-in & 0.16 sec (4.8V)
S9451: 111 oz-in & 0.13 sec (4.8V)

So this begs the question: How much torque do we need for our 50's??

I mean, I'm currently using the popular S9252 on collective, but it's ONLY rated at 92 oz-in. Is this not enough?

And in a CCPM system, 3 sevos are doing the work together, so there is 3 times as much torque available. So for my Hurrican, there will be 3 times as much torque available as on my Raptor.

Bottom line: I am looking at using Hitec Servos for cyclic and collective. The 2 I am looking at are as follows:

HS-6965HB: 92 oz-in & 0.10 sec
HS-6985HB: 144 oz-in & 0.16 sec

So how much torque do I need? Do I go for the faster servo, or do I need the higher torque servo to be quicker in the air??

Danny is most likely running his at 6v which gives his 120oz at .13

I'm running 9252's and we noticed a considerable difference when I installed the Arizona Reg on 6v to the CCPM and 5.1 to the 611, however Futaba doesn't give you the specs when running them on 6v or at least I haven't run across them. Ron Lund has them for a very reasonible price, especially if you have a large fleet like Steven and I do, you want a good servo that won't break the bank.

Just my opinion

Foxden I am sure you know but futaba recomends not running 9252's on 6v. That is why the do bnot have specs for running them on 6v. Again I am sure you know this becouse you are running a reg with them.

Actually, if Danny is running them at 6V, then he is getting 192 oz-in out of his S9351s.

Isn't that insane for a 50???

Holy cow - that's 100 oz-inches more than our S9252s at 4.8V!!
