Never mind for some stupid reason, futaba decided togive us 8 channels on PCM, and FM, but we get all the channels, on G3 mode, how stupid! Why not give us 9 channels on PCM :dontknow :arggg: :arggg:

It has always been that way. The 9 Channel radios when in PCM (1024) mode only had 8 proportional channels and 1 channel that was controlled just by switch that was on or off.
Then when in PPM mode there was only 8 channels transmitted.
9Z and 9C have all been this way.
So when in PCM 1024 mode basically only 8 channels are used.

And you have had this radio how long?

Not sure if the 12Z is the same as the14MZ, but in PCM 1024 mode on my 14MZ if you go into "FUNCTION" in the upper right hand corner is a button labelled "VC 1-4"
Touch that button
Now on this screen you will see one or two buttons on the right labelled DG1 and DG2. These can be assigned as a digital non-proportional channel just like the 9th channel on the 9Z.
This is only in PCM1024 mode. It is not there under PPM mode.
Also, under FREQUENCY on the 14MZ (not sure about the 12Z) you can select PPM8 or PPM12. This may not be in the 12Z since this is under the screen where you can also select the shift for PPM RXs.
Anyhow, if using PCM1024 see if the above is also true for the 12Z.

Bill,
I have a 12Z. Doesn't work that way on the 12Z. I have never used a 9th channel with a heli. I have used 8 but never had a need for a 9th.

So one more difference between the two.
I agree that 8 channels covers most everything you will normally fly. I only use more than 6 or 7 on my giant scale aerobatic planes and then only because it makes set up so much easier.

Only reason I wanted it is because curtis's atg wants the sensor wire in channel 3 or 9, well it ended up in channel 3
