Anyone got any tips to "smooth" a 600 for AP work. I'm thinking throttle/pitch curves, types of blades, headspeed, helical gears?

Great heli for AP, but can be a bit rough if not set up correctly...

flybar weights, LOTS of expo, and about 50% swash throws is a place to start.

DJ - Have you heard of anyone stripping gears in the servos from too much mass in the rotor?

I am using a REX450 and had a lot of mass in the rotor and had my weights all the way out to the flybar paddles. During some fun flying without all the gear I stripped the gears in the HS65's while making a tight left turn.... Needless to say she dug a hole with the nose on impact.

Anyway, Back in the air and was re-visiting the notion of making the rotor more "rigid in space" but was worried about over-torque on the gears again.

I have a smooth tip for you. Do what i did and stretch it to 700 and run 10 or 12s.

If your not up for stretching then what DJ suggested is a good starting point. Also a HS of 1700-1800 is a good for the stock setup.

Thanks Derek ... how does one go about stretching? - is it a matter of getting a longer boom and belt - or is there more?

never... the flybar paddles do most of the work in a rotor system so adding some weights will have little to no effect on the servos.

well stretching the bird is not easy, but its not entirly hard either. I used a raptor 60 boom cut down .25", a 770XL belt, had to modify the plastic pullys to fit the slightly wider belt. Also it helps to use my custom side frames that mounts the motor up top(but not needed). As well as a few other things.

If you are thinking of doing it let me know, i will PM you more instructions

Just made some changes - changed to plastic blade holders, checked all the links of the arms for length etc.

Took a test flight today and noticed things were very smoothly but the (stock) motor was running very hot. Is this normal for a standard hover for a few minutes??

How hot is VERY HOT. Do you have a temp?

Sorry - but not sure of actual temp but it burnt my finger when I touched it!!! Should it run quite hot to the touch??
