can't bind dx7

I just got my dx7 and trying to put it on my raptor 30,I have fromco battery and regulater,it is the standard regulater for planes, but I was just setting it to 5 volts to all the servos but the reciever will not let me bind it. Ican bind it with the supplied 4.8 battery then plug in my regulater as long as I don't turn off the tx it will work, but if I turn off the rx and tx it won't power back up or let me rebind it untill I unhook the regulater and put the supplied battery back in.The regulater only has 2 wires going to the rx the other battery has 3 would his not let me bind it. Any help will be aprciated.

Plug the binding plug into the BATTERY connector, plug power/battery into any other connector. After you bind the RX immediately power off the RX, Remove the binding plug and power the RX back up..

It should now work as expected.
