View Full Version : My Heli is a people magnet...

Seems like every time I go to the park (any park) my 450 SE attracts people like a magnet. I'm still learning nose in and side in hover and it's difficult to do when someone says: "Hey.... Hows it goin..... that thing fly like a real helicopter?.... how much you pay for it...." bla bla bla.... Had a blade strike once because I lost my concentration... So, my theory is that the motor creates an EMP on liftoff that causes everyone in the area to immediately stop what they are doing and come over to talk to me... Is there anything that can be done to prevent this? Maybe lead shielding?

You could spray around unwanted bystanders from your heli, just an idea.

I too have the same problem at my local park. Granted I've only flown my BCX2 there, but it still causes people to come out of the woodwork. Consequently I think I would come off cheaper to buy a new BCX2 than repair mine after the last visit. But then again maybe the wind had something to do with it. Nah! I'll just blame it on the spectators, after all thats how you play Golf isn't it?

Try flying a trex600 at a regular park like I do. Lots of attention, especially the unwanted kind...like the police and fire dept
I dont mind when chicks come over tho  but they usually say something degrading like "aww, its soo cute! its a miniature helicopter!"
how is a trex600 cute?!?!? I've heard that so many times I may as well paint it pink
do they also ask how high dose it go thats the first question
i hear :badair:
I hate that question. :arggg:
I usually reply with "AMA safety code states that we can fly no higher than 400 feet" that usually shuts them up. but the next question is "how much does it cost?" I always answer "you dont want to know" that lets them wonder silently

yea i usually give them a "way more than your wife/girfriend/mother wants you spending" based on theire age
the height and speed is always one and two as well, and that answer is easy and brutally honest, - way higher than i have skill to fly it
my big concern is more of a safety one as opposed to distraction, when your flying and folks are blabbing i tend to tune them out having crashed from talking back however i cant stand when you politely ask them to stand behind you and inevitably someone stars walking towards the heli to look closer or buddies unleashed dog goes running around,
part of me wants to fly right into them and say 'see i told ya"
and the safe part climbs out yells profanities at the idiot then land and go away..shows over...

Actually everyone that has come over to talk to me has waited till I land the thing. maybe cause i like to back it up right into my face and then do a backflip to nose in inverted hover just a few feet in front of me
keeps them away from me

When I get asked what is the range of the radio I always reply with " when I can't see the heli it dosen't matter". They usually give me a dumb look and wander off !!
