Had my first flight with this new battery pack and noticed that it swelled up. This was after 5 min of mild 3D. Running in the battery.
I used it in my Mini Titan with Mega 16/15/3 motor (13T pinion) and Jazz 40-6-18 esc @ 80% governor.
Is this normal??? OR just a bad battery?
Have a look at this @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiwnW_C15po
The good pack closest.

Hey,
Eck! That isn't normal, well not unless you abuse the packs or over charge them.
You do not say what make/capacity the packs are and so I am guessing on two things :
1. Your drawing to much current from them and damaging the pack, getting them to hot during flight. Speaking of heat how are they after a flight, warm or hot?
2. Another option is draining the LiPo's to much, eg. using more than the recommended 80% capacity of the pack. This to will cause problems such as this.
Once we have eliminated the above perhaps it is just the pack make not able to cope with the current draw, of course I am assuming they are not a top brand pack.

Exactly what Ian is saying. Well said, and possible. Do you have any packs that are flying your heli good and working fine in your heli?
I think those are FlightPower. I sent you a PM.

When you puff up a pack make sure you sit it somewhere safe for a while and DO NOT try to charge it again.

That pack looks pretty bad. If a FlightPower pack puffed like that then I would definitely not use it again.

Thanks for the replies. It's a Thunder Power Extreme series 2070mAh.
The temp of the pack was 32C degrees
Motor was 50C degrees
Esc was 28C degrees
It was a brand new pack. Charge at 0.5C with TP 1010C and balanced with TP210.
Have charge it back up with caution. It took 738mAh....
Oh, i checked the radio timer. It was on 6 min, so I just flew it for 3 min.
Tried the other pack. Howerd it for 3 min @ 80% govenor and that one looks fine.

so, do we chalk this up as another benefit of breaking in lipo packs, or was it just a bad pack?
personally, i break in all my packs with 2-4 light cycles (5-7amps max draw) of 30-40% capacity before unloading the collective and headspeed on them.
