Been flying the CP with the stock main motor on lipos now for about two months. I love the power and duration but the heat is a big problem. The motor gets very hot, too hot to touch even with the heat sink and ducts in the canopy. I have checked the gear mesh and its fine. I have even loosened it up a bit which helped in reducing the noise and some of the heat. I reduced my pitch curve but that only helped a little bit as well. I have also tried using a small cpu fan to help kool it down. However it proved to be too heavy and it made it vibrate so much a girl watching it would drool. Due to this problem I have to break up my 10 min flight into two 5 min flights to allow the motor to kool.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep the motor kool so I can run longer periods at a time?
I am looking for something not too expensive but effective if possible. Buying a brushless setup is out of the question because I'd rather spend that money on a TRex or BeltCP or a better heli.

Thanks!

Are you using thermal paste? I use two heat sinks and the paste. It has helped keep the heat down considerably. Probably about $7-$10 for extra heat sink and the paste. I picked mine up at Radio Shack for $3 I think.

No I don't use thermal paste because I thought it would be too messy. But I'll try it. I dunno. If I add another heat sink won't be too close to the 4-1?

Oh ya, another thing can you use sym blades on the 8 tooth motor or would that be too much head speed?

The stock motor is wrong for the lipo, the lipo motor has 8t pinion (9t for lipo and symmetrical blades). Stock is 10t for NiMH packs only.

You are lucky you didn't damage your 4 in 1.

So far so good. I'm using whats recommended in the Eflite manual. Lipo with 8tooth motor and flat bottom blades. I asked if you could use sym blades on the 8 tooth motor because I read some where else that they were using sym blades with 8 tooth motor. Just wanted to see if anyone could confirm this. More research has to be done.

I haven't blown the 4in1 yet Thank God. Im planning to fuse protect my heli to prevent this in case of a crash. However I don't know which fuse (amp) to put on. Any suggestions?

7 or 7.5 amp IIRC.

It may just be there your motor is ready to give up. I have been flying the 8t/flat bottom/3S lipo fine for a while.
