Here is my setup for RealFlight G3.5 to use the Spektrum DX7 (Helicopter version) as the controller.
Switches for Helicopters:
DX7 Flight Mode switch = G3.5 Flight Mode switch
DX7 Gear switch = G3.5 Dual Rate switch
DX7 Aux2 switch = G3.5 Throttle Hold switch
The following switches have no functions in Helicopter Mode:
Elevator D/R
Aileron D/R
Hold - Rudder D/R
Trainer/ Hover Pitch
Hover Throttle
Switches for Airplanes:
DX7 Gear switch = G3.5 Dual Rate switch
DX7 Aux2 switch = G3.5 Gear switch
The following switches have no functions in Airplane Mode:
Flight Mode switch
Elevator D/R
Aileron D/R
Hold - Rudder D/R
Trainer/ Hover Pitch
Hover Throttle
I have Edited the DX7 settings to change the Travel Adjusts to 150%
scottym - Converted the spreadsheet to a PDF for easier viewing so I decieded to include a PDF with al the settings here as well. (Thank you, scottym)
The G3 Channal mapping Screen shot is included in the .pdf

Your welcome.
You do loose the Knob control since your going from 8 channels on the InterLink to 7 on the DX7, but for Helicopters it should not effect anything.

thanks Jermo..
Forgot about what came with my the sim.. been so long since I looked at the box of additional cables and such...
I will take a look and see if I got the cable when I get home from work...
It will be cool using the dx7 itself to actually flight train on the sim.. so cool.
Oh yeah... thanks so much for the Dx7 vid :noteworthy ... really helped a noobie out!
ahhhh....It all makes sense now...

Hello, i'm trying to use my DX7 with G3.5 and everything works except the flt mode switch. I cant get out of normal mode (into idle up 1 or 2).
How did you guys get this switch to work?

I can't get the channel mapping to take. I set the parameters top those shown above and hit OK. It does not save the settings. As soon as I hit OK, it just defaults back to the factory settings. Needless to day, the DX7 does not work with this...
I have done this ten times now and still no luck. Any suggestions on making them stick?

I have this same trouble. I am about read to take the entire R3.5 package back, it always claims I didn't register when i tell it to check for updates. So far I'm not overly impressed, sure its better than G2...but that doesn't say much.

OK...
I broke down and called tech support at realflight.
Supposedly, this is a bug that was corrected in the latest version of the software. V 3.50.044. They said to download that and it should work.
Update: That did the trick. They also told me how to remove the tension spring on the back of the throttle to the USB controller. Even that feels real now. After all of that work... I will probably just use the USB control since it feels like the DX7 now. No more clicks on the throttle. That was my biggest complaint.

If I buy realflight how does this work? Do I connect the dx7 to the interlink? Do I use a cable like the ones they sell at milehighwings.com? Can anyone enlighten me as to how this works? I am aware that the interlink acts as dongle protection for realflight. How do you use your dx7 if you buy realflight? Thanks for any info on this :D
EDIT: Also, what model would I fly to best simulate the hdx450 (trex450 clone)?

Your DX7 will plug into the G3 Controller using the cable suplied with the G3 Package

Eltavito, did you figure it out? I'm having the same trouble. The channel mapping screen doesn't even register any change when I flip the switch. I think it used to work, but I can't remember. I do have the airplane version radio, but don't think it should matter.

I found the cable to plug the dx7 to the RF tx. so do I have to make a new model in the dx7 to use it . I am lost on this...john

i was wondering the same thing. do you have to create a new model on the tx or when i plug it in and change the channel mapping to match. will it reconize my current settings? expo pitch etc to my trex450 settings?

Yes you create a new model and set it up as per the spreadsheet.
In order to set it up to use your pitch curves from the radio you will need to set it up differently (I believe the G3 manual explains how to do this).
I looked into doing it that way briefly but this way gave me a more generic setup.
Good Luck

I got mine working, forgot to post. You need to create a new model on your radio, but you have to set it up for a plane, not a heli. Then everything will be working in g3 like it's supposed to after you map your keys.

I converted heli_harry's spreadsheet, as of today, to a .pdf file. Thanks to heli_harry for posting the original (lovin' it).
Q: I realize this questions may be off-topic for this thread, but, does anyone have an opinion on weather the knifeedge 450SE model is the best option for G3.5? I haven't flown my real REX yet but the simulated model seems way too easy to fly.
