Where do you put the pitch gauge on the blade during measurement? Do you put it closer to the grip or the end of the blade?

When using a standard pitch gauge I put it about 1/4 of the way from the end of the blade. I think it really shouldn't matter much where you put it though.
When using a digital gauge (the square ones you use for adjusting angles on a table saw blade) I put it on the blade grip if they are flat on top.
