Hi,

Somehow I could not find a way to make the starter shaft work properly. The one that came with the kit which use 1 set screw has gone bad after a few runs. I have ordered the upgraded version with 2 screws squeezing the shaft but whatever I do, the hex adapter is slipping over the starter shaft. In my last effort I screwed it so hard that one of the screws has broke down inside the hex adapter. I started from the scratch and then installed a second upgraded starter shaft and again it does not work.

What kind of starter shaft are you using ? I lost my confidence in Outrage ones and want to try a Align Trex 700 one which holds with 2 set screws however the lenght of the Trex 700 starter shaft is around 82 mm and Velocity use 60 mm.

Any advice on the starter shaft ? ıs there a starter shaft from any manufacturer around 60 mm in lenght 5 mm in diameter and suitable for 10 mm one way bearing ?

I used a dremel and made a couple of flat spots for the set screws to hit. No problems since, that was 6 months ago.

I used a Trex 600 cup, it has two set screws and fits like a glove!

I ordered a new starter shaft for my Velocity 50... I was glad that the 2 screw squeeze one was out of stock and the original one was back.

Who ever designed this.. and thought it was a good idea... and all the others responsible for thinking it was a good idea and letting it through... well... :arggg: You're whats wrong.

Now for the good news. I ordered this:

It is not the same as the original part pictured. The shaft has a single flat spot for one of the grub screws and a little bit away it a hole in the cup for another. This is an improvement.

Now as long as the material isn't cheluminum, I will be quite joyful. Oh hell, ill still enjoy it while it flies...

Darnit, the links don't work.

I have a V50 kit due to arrive by UPS today. I'll check the starter shaft to see which one the kit comes with now.

You're right. I also went through the parts list on helidirect.com but there doesn't seem to be any start shaft part listed in the Velocity 50 section now. :wow2:

Theyre gonna make us go back to that old belt start we see in vintage RC heli videos.

That's awesome how you made it so the video started playing right when they were starting it up!

love the antique helis with new electronics...I have one I'm scared to fly!
Good luck with the starting problem....that belt looks like it takes someone with big $&@# to work!

I had to get a new starter shaft for the velo. How the hell can this be better than the old version? Every time I try to start the engine the coupling slips..Is there a special way to install it without it slipping?
