Obviously based on the RC format motor and still in prototype form but it certainly looks interesting!

I like the height of that clutch bell. There must be some really wide shoes in there.
looks pretty heavy duty for sure.

this model will be much more tunable than their previous gas offerings. The RC motor has much better cooling at all RPMs and combined with the large clutch it should tolerate a pretty wide variety of gear ratios so you can run the motor you want and get the performance you want out of it.

thats tighter than a knats a$$ on a lemon wedge. in other words awesome!!!!

Carey, Do you know what the name of this motor is.? I would like to read some on it.
I think this heli is going to be a big hit with heli folks. It just looks so strong. Cant wait to see the reviews. I think that I gotta have this one.

That clutch looks beefy. The servos look like they're direct to swash, though.

Hey
the motor you see is an out of the box Zenoah RC270 however the model is setup to use any of the RC format motors.
the plan as Chris described it is to offer multiple gear ratios so that different motor displacement/power ranges can be used to adapt to your flying style. The cooling system on the RC motor is quite good at many different RPM ranges and the more robust clutch should support lower RPM ranges than in the past.
The high rpm, high power output TRM motors that I already run in my HB TRex and Spark conversions should bolt right in.
At some point I'll post a write up about high rpm vs low rpm power output.
Thanks for the info Carey.
The write up should be real interesting. I am interested mainly in lower RPM for use in scale flying.

The clutch almost has the height of a dual stacked zenoah clutch similar to gopeds\ and large quarter scale off road cars= very heavy duty. parts count seems low, ccpm swash. This heli, if close to being the produced version graduated from K.I.S.S. College. :clappp
Where can I buy two??
Miniature Aircraft, please get this one done quickly!
Here's what it looks like with the painted canopy.

"Sigh" Just gonna have to wait until MA brings it out, I've wanted a gasser but just don't like the PUH format engines.

I have no doubt it will be a winner. But, seems to me the profile looks a little unbalanced. Are the skids look too short, or the legs too far apart, or the canopy too big or something else?
Anyone agree or am I on my Pat Malone?

Dam that looks awesome, have you flown it carey. How does it compare to the spectra. Love the low parts count. Very nice.

nope, haven't flown the gas version however I have seen it perform
I have seen the nitro and electric versions up close and watched them fly........all of them are impressive.

Will be looking forward to hearing more about it in the future. GREAT LOOKING MACHINE.

Nice looking heli. I am getting one.
Imagine an Oneill Brother`s Racing full mod engine, with a light weight flywheel and an adjustable clutch.
Most of the gassers I have seen in videos run a stock 23cc or a 26cc engines.
This full mod engines are a completely different animal.
I dont think a heli starter can turn one of this full mod engines, but we`ll see.

Lightweight flywheel? High compression?
I'd be worried that the heli would shake in a manor similar to a 'blind dog in a meat market' :) I guess what I mean to say is that not all the same 'tricks' that make a good RC car or goped engine, translate to helicopters.

These engines are hand built and balanced.
The lightweight flywheel gives you a better throttle response.
When I get my heli I will give it a try and let you know.

The lightweight flywheel gives you a better throttle response.
This seems a tad redundant for a Heli, since you dont want any RPM change, though I guess it saves weight.

these motors run more smoothly with more flywheel weight

there is a video posted of one of the Whiplash Gas flights flown at the Jamboree on another site:
Whiplash Gas Demo Flight - Bobby Watts (http://rc.runryder.com/helicopter/rrTV-Photo/funflies/IRCHA2011/IRCHA2011-2A19.mp4)
The model shown was flown with a TRM Power VX270 TT motor, thats Alan's latest 26cc high performance motor in the RC format. The TT indicates the Turbo Tuned series.
Its been run smoothly over 15K RPM however in the video its running about 14K.

Carey,
Was this the FBL model or the standard head? I couldn't tell for sure in the video and the commentary didn't seem to mention.

it was an FBL using the Futaba 750. It will of course be offered in either version.
