Ok, now just wondering if i should start buying a few bits for the xxtreme?? Now i know the motor/ESC i would want to wait but what about servos and vbar unit??? I am thinking 8717HV and BLS251 and full size vbar.
Or is it possible mikado will offer the lot as a package?? Thanks
PS i am getting married soon, i may as well buy what i can now LOL

I don't think you will have a problem with 8717HV servos ans BLS251. full size V-bar will be great in this heli. You could also get a 7S charger (like Hyperion Super Duo), 813 FBL blades. Put I would wait for the ESC and Motor.

Already got the charger.
So i guess wait on lipos/esc/motor/airframe.
Not sure when the edge 813MM are back in stock. I hope radix makes some.

I would hold off on the blades I believe the jury is still out on a perfect size.

As heliaddict2424, the "perfect" blades size is still being explored. If you know up front you want the "big boy" version, we know 813's can be driven well with outstanding performance on 14S, and the range of head speeds with this combo is very wide to suit different flying styles and performance desires.
I think it will eventually turn out just like "700 class" helis today. With "700 class" helis, there are several "perfect" blade sizes (690's, 700's, 710's), on a variety of different "power packages", all working fine based on each pilot's wants/needs and budget. The XXtreme will be no different. It's just that it's a whole new "size class", and workable combos take time to perfect.
Servos? I think we've established you're good to go with strong, good quality HV servos on 8.4 volts for aggressive 3D flying, although we flew them initially (about 20 flights) @ 6 volts without issues. With easier type flying, you could go with high quality standard servos on 6 volts and be fine.
8900G / BLS 251 type servos on regulated voltage for their specs. will work great.
Any power supply to the electronics (whether it's an internal ESC BEC, external BEC, or an on-board battery/regulator), probably needs to be good for a minimum of 10 amps continuous, with higher peaks allowed.
Full size V-Bar is good, as there is plenty of space for it, and the full sized version may provide you with future options the mini doesn't.
Blades...
Since 800+ length blades are long and flight dynamics can "bend" the blades pretty dramatically, any off-the-shelf "noodle flexible" 800 class blades, developed for AP use, but used for aggressive 3D, may lead to boom strikes. So make sure the blades you select has been engineered with "3D" flight in mind.
As discussed, wait on any motor/ESC combo for now.

Ive got the motor for this beast, just wondering if i should go ahead and pick up the yeg esc, also got the servos and the full size v bar, only thing will the 7s tp batteries, esc, and air frame, along with blades. Just wondering but does the tail have a ratio like the shape, where even if the tail blades were super big the main blades would never touch them.... think its a 5:1 ratio.

I have bought JR DS8717, BLS 251 and a fullsize V-bar planning on running them on 6V with a WR Hercules. Will wait to buy anything else until the heli is released.

Given the fact there has on purpose been no pictures with canopy off yet, I would venture a guess and guess that drivetrain is different, will a standard motor even fit, or is it a new design all together?
Questions that needs to be answered, and will be, but until then I would do like Dave says and wait on purchasing motor/esc...

Gearing is available, only question is which pinions... and we know at least a 5035 fits...
But the thing I would think about is heat. My current light 700-class machine takes as much power as it gets no matter if it's a 5025/5035 or a custom 45- or 42-class motor. I got all of them to a point where you could say heat will cause problems from damaged bearings to melted main gears doing aggressive 3D and speed flights.
Taking into account an XXtreme has about 1kg more weight and 20% more performance (14s instead of 12s), this will cause serious trouble if you're not able to handle about 2kW heat at peak situations and at least 600W continuous...
By the way I'm not using any extremely powerful batteries... a speed flight with a powerful battery causes about 1,3kW continuous heat on a 700-class machine.
Just a thought when speaking about those high-power motor and batteries...

Is it just me, or has nobody else noticed the new HV BLS Futaba servos (as on RH coming soon page)?
I want them as I want to run a seperate Rx pack, no BEC and no Reg, and use my telemetry to monitor Rx pack voltage.
Any reasons people can see to not use BLS255HV and BLS157HV servos?
Also, how quiet has Kontronic been on the new Kosmic ESC and Pyro 800 (my name for the new motor to suit the Xxtreme).

Does anyone know the month of release or what this beast is going to weigh? Am I naive to think I can run it on 12S with 710's? I already have a couple Xera 4030's and HV120 I was hoping to use.

Well i hope my 5035 will fit, as it i dont feel like winding another, but may have to in order to get the kv right.

Dave mentioned something about a "light"-setup but I think only time will tell what that means.

I don't believe that even Mikado has a release date I'm just speculating from what I have seen. Considering there is still prototype parts on the XXtreme my guess is its a ways off still. I think the reason no one is seeing pictures of the canopy off or other parts of the heli is two fold. One is the fact that someone will knock the XXtreme design off just look at what KDS did with there heli its a complete copy of the CF logo 600. The other reason I think is because its still being tested and anything on the heli that's not going to be on the production model need not be shown simply because it would raise to many questions. Again I can only give my opinion based on the fact that I have seen it with the canopy off and seen it action..

Was the Xxtreme in the video on 14s? I don't think Caslte make's an esc that could handle 14s and 800mm blade's. I really want to buy this helicopter, but the more I think about how much money it would take to get one flying is just crazy. You could easily invest over $4,000.00. Thats just too much for me. I think I'll just shoot for the new Align 600e.

It was 14s and your not far off on your price estimate either. For the money I think your better off with a logo 600 vs any align product IMHO...

Is the XXtreme officially the Mikado 710mm heli?
Does it seem to anyone else that they've kind of got a hole in their line up? Everyone else has dedicated 12s/710mm machines and it seems to me that not many buyers of the XXtreme are going to run it that way, the size and engineering of it would appear to be encouraging 14s/800mm blades otherwise you are just wasting the extra strength and weight.
So where is the 710mm Mikado?

XXtreme is an 800 class machine capable of being flown as a 700 but I don't know if any one has actually flown it as a 700 yet.

Question: "Is the XXtreme officially the Mikado 710mm heli?"
Yes. But what I think happened, is that along the way to making a Logo 700 that could reliable swing 800 class blades as well, and by the time they engineered the machine to handle maximum 3D flight with 800's, the machine was so far away from being a "700class" heli anymore, they had to decide which it was going to be. 700 or 800? They changed the name to "XXtreme", and...
When we first got the heli, Mikado surprised us by wanting the machine proven first as an 800, and anything else would follow later.
After about 200 flights later, we've proven the machine to be a fully functional 3D 800.
Question: "So where is the 710mm Mikado?"
Yea...looks like a hole in their line-up at this point. They've got everything covered (with overlap in some cases), from a 400 all the way to 800 now, with that small little exception of a "710 heli".
If you think Mikado is going to let that stand, you don't know Ralf Buxnowitz very well
