Hi Guys, just wondering if any of you are running the new bevelled gear set for the X5 ? any feedabck would be appreciated. thanks.

half the noise, mostly the blades you will hear with the beveled gears, very nice :)

The angle of the teeth seems like it would unnecessarily load the main bearnigs and one-way. Any feedback on this? You do get a better selection of pinions. And how much is the beveled maingear and pinion anyway?

Thanks!

I have been running a bevel gear set now for around 40 flights. it's quieter. less noise = more efficiency(usually with gears anyways). but very expensive compared to regular gear set-up. bevel gear cost is about 4 times the price for the X5. I personally love these gears though. I also use bevel cut gears in my 700E as well, with great results..

X5 gear price comparison:

bevel pinion =$14
bevel main gear= $32
total=$46.00

Stock pinion= $5
stock Main gears X2= $11
total=$10.50

My Logo 600 uses mod 1.0 herringbone maingear and pinion. The combination is very quiet. But the teeth are arranged in a v pattern so there is no up or down load exerted by the pinion into the maingear assembly. The angled tooth configuration of the x5 pinion/maingear appears as though it would have to push up or down on the maingear assembly. I wonder if you could see it flex during spinup.

I have many many flights between my 700E and X5 on the bevel gears. no bearing problems on the motors or main shafts.. I don't think the axial load is great enough to harm anything. One things for sure, my 700E & X5 now sound like logo's. very very quiet. also seeing better efficiency in both machines according to the castle logs..

thanks guys, might have to give this gear set a go. :thumbup:

The TDR is also a STD bevel configuration, and multi stage. We all know how well that bird flies.

Do you know if it uses standard cartridge bearings? I'd guess it probably does. Maybe the angle is such that the axial load is negligible. Standard cartridge bearings are really only designed to handle radial loads. But there again, the constant changes in pitch during flight also introduce significant axial force. That's why thrust bearings are used in combination in some helis. I'm really just curious. It occurs to me that you can't have angled teeth without introducing some axial force. Maybe I'm wrong.

Im pretty sure it does, here is a pic of the henseleit gear train from the side, a total work of art. The fact that this bird has the two stage is part of why I am still in love with my Gaui 550 geartrain.

that is some very nice gearing there but i would hate to guess the costs in replacing them.

Thats the 09 TDR. The 10/11 models now have a metal TT gear.

Binned my TDR about 4 weeks ago, oddly only stripped the crown gear, intermediate and main survived the crash - lucky me! NOT!

G, maaaaaaaaate....OUCH:face Sorry to hear bud. Hope she aint too bad and you get her in the air quickly.

NG, got asked at the field today if my X4'd lowered head 550 was a new smaller TDR :rolling

Terra, have been using the bevelled maingear for a while now and no issues to report.
Definately quieter. I can comment on efficiency as i made a few changes at the same time. But sounds/feels smoother, easier if that makes sense.

looking at that tdr set up the upper and lower bevells seem to oppose each other? which would center them to some degree.just a thought from looking at them
