CCHV85 Link Problem

Needed a little help with the Castle USB link,
I downloaded software and installed software driver - USB status is green, but can't get a link between the computer and the ESC.
The cable plugs into the servo lead from the throttle - but do I need to power the ESC in some way to get a link.
Not sure what I am doing wrong here, but not getting a link and have not hooked up lipos yet.
Maybe I need to hook up Lipos - any help would be appreciated,

Yes, the HV ESC's are opto-isolated so they cant take power from the Rx's bus the way the smaller ESC's (like the CC35) do.

The sequence is...
==== to connect ====
- connect the link cable to the PC
- start the Castle software
- connect the link to the ESC
- connect the main batteries to the ESC
** Castle software UI should now show additional pages for configuration of the ESC

==== to disconnect ====
- disconnect the main batteries, powering down the ESC
- wait for the LED on the ESC to go off
- disconnect the link from the ESC
- go fly!
