View Full Version : 2.096AH into a 2100mah batt
I must have accidently used a battery that I had already flown. Ran about 3 minutes and the Trex450 settled to the ground. The ESC is set to mid protection (2.9v). I think that ESC battery protection is what happened but more throttle didn't seem to save it. I might have ran it all the way dead. The cell pro 4 said each cell had 3.6ish volts. At the end of the charge the cell pro said 2.096 was put in. That sounds like 100%. What does this do to the battery if it only happens once? I hope not to do this again.

While it may have take a bit off of the life of the battery it will most likley be fine for use.
For example instead of 250 flights you may only get 200 out of that pack.
Definatley don't do that agian. :...:
Good to hear. Thanks. I can live with 200 charges. I need more batts anyway :D

A charger can only display how much energy was fed to the battery, not how much was put back into the battery. (Unless the charger has a way of estimating this).
You will always use more Mah's to charge a battery than what was provided by the battery during discharge. You can check this yourself if your charger has a discharge function (such as storage for Lipo's at 50% capacity). Start out with a fully charged batter, then set it to storage and note the mah's discharged. Then charge it back to full and compare the two - this will give you a rough idea of the charging efficency.
There are many posts about people targeting an 80% discharge (example 2100 x .80 = 1680). If your charge "puts back into" 1680 then your battery was never discharged to eighty percent in the first place, and you are not utilizing the battery capacity the way you think you are.

Sorry... a shameless plug for a lipo alarm :) You should get away with the odd over-discharge but they don't like it...

I'll 2nd the plug for Pete's alarm.. Got one on both my 450 and my 600.. (And will need another one for my new 450 SE V2 that's due here Monday) Flew 4 packs on the 450 last night and each pack took just about 1850mah when recharged after landing within 10-15 seconds of the alarm lighting up.

Yep. He built me buzzerless units for both my 450 and my 600... Plenty bright enough to see in the sun...

OTOH I had him make a dual buzzer model for my EP8. Smal and large, gives a NASTy beat frequency. :)
I will have to look at alarms then. Right now I just use a timer.

Timer is great, until you plug in a partially discharged pack, or you forgot to start the timer, or forget to reset the timer before starting it.
IN those cases the lipo alarm saves the pack.
And just go Efliernz Gallery and get his one specifically for the Trex. NICE unit.
