Here are some photos of what's left of my brand new 700E F3C:

I've had 3 flights with it, mostly hovering around and gentle flying because I wanted to take it easy with this big beautiful bird and it's still new to me. But today the Castle ICE HV 120 just burst into flames after about a minute of flight. I'm really bummed and will be calling Castle on Monday to see what they have to say.

that outcome is always in the back of my mind when i fly my CC ESC's, what settings were you running, timing and PWM?

ouch!! It doesn't look so bad though, hopefully you didn't break much else other than the esc.

And this (amongst the other numerous reports) is why I will never, ever buy anything from Castle Creations.

Standard Advance, and Outrunner Mode. And I had it set to Fixed Throttle. I'll be tearing it down soon to see what needs replacing. But does not look too bad.

Funny thing was the field caught on fire and I had to put it out with a water bottle. (Note to self: always carry water when flying electrics)

Even if CC gives me a new ESC, It is not going back on this bird!

Now just need to find a better speed controller...

Sorry for your loss :(

+1 Inverse: why are people still buying them!!! Why cant it give a simple warning or at least lower the throttle to 75% when something is wrong.

Damn! That looks really bad! Sorry to see that.
Makes me worry for my friend's 700 which also has a CC80HV

I assume that you are using an external BEC, so the YGE would be a good choice, or if you want to use an internal BEC, there is only one choice, that's Kontronik JIVE.

It came with the kit - so thats why i bought mine. Even if it just shut down it would be better than flames!

Im running 2s LiFe direct. The YGE on my mini Protos is great so may go that route for this bird.

You wouldnt regret the YGE. Be sure to go 80% on the throttle. Below that it gets warmer. Also a good bec WR.

Sorry to see that.
I was lucky my new CC 80HV went up in smoke Saturday also. I had a new Trex 600 in the air one time the second time the smoke happened I was still on the ground and unplugged it. :face
