Well, I was doing just fine hovering and mild FF.
I then started doing piros... first few were fantastic.
Last one was going smooth then a huge gust of wind (30 mph or so) came out of nowhere while I was nose in.
As a beginner, I tried my best to keep in under control... well, here's the result. :bawl

Simple: He was flying in normal mode.... When he lost orientation the reflex was to cut power which means less hurrumph!! to chop the boom or flip it over upon landing sideways.
Have you been flying in idle up too long or did your brain freeze this winter in NE??? :D

Bummer about the crash, though.

That sucks. I just had my first Raptor crash yesterday with my Titan and I'm hating it. After lots of Rex crashes you get used to fixing it really cheap. I guess its not so bad except I busted my new set of Radix blades :bawl Only their 3rd flight, what a shame. My G-Force head looks like it survived though, although I will have to wait until its fixed to see if there is anything bent causing vibes. For the amount of damage to the heli it could have been a lot worse. I had some spare parts and the rest of the parts I bought today were 85 bucks. How much did your crash cost?
I'm glad I started nitros with a Raptor, I would be crying if it was a Stratus or an Avant with the frame ripped in 2 pieces and debris everywhere.
Looks like you need to change that jesus bolt in the head for a shouldered one. Looks like the one you have is threaded all the way along.

Funky... That crash cost me about $185.
Not too bad considering I landed it on its side.
Sorry to hear about your crash. Like you, I got use to fixing up the TRex... nice and cheap ($20-$50).
Just got a Miniature Aircraft X-Cell Fury... I really don't want to crash this one, but like everyone says, It's part of the hobby.
Good luck on your re-build. Hope all goes well.

Congrats on the Fury, I can't wait to get my next big nitro. There is definately an X-Cell or Avant sometime in my future. The cheap rebuilds on the 450 are nice, but flying these bigger helis seems worth the cost difference. I picked up my Raptors because I wanted something cheap to fix since I am still pretty new to this hobby (almost a year) and I still have a lot to learn. How does your Fury fly compared to your Titan?

Funky,
Not sure yet... test hovered it a couple of weekends ago & the weather has sucked since then. Also, like you, I am pretty new to R/C... only since November.
But if the weather is good this weekend, you can bet I'll be out with the Fury to see how it performs next to the Raptor.

Funky,
I know what you mean. I was so worried about the nitro birds and all the hassle of keeping them (or getting them) running.
I'm a T-Rex 450SE guy... Just took my Titan 50 out to the field for the first time today. That baby is dialed in (for a neb). It was a blast to fly and I couldn't wait to refill the tank and give it another go.
It was very windy today. Some calm breaks in between. I would land during calm periods. Very impressed though, the 50 handled the wind very well.
What a difference the size makes between the helis. That and nothing like that smoke and engine sound.
Was prepared for a crash, but the heli God's were smilin'.
Stevejr72, good luck on the rebuild. Definitley a reason to go with an alum head! :D
