I am enthused by my first tests with these GWS fan units. Both held the tail with authority through an entire pack and remained only warm to the touch. Balance was not an issue as I had imagined it would be. The DF50H weighs 3 grams more than the DF40H but was easily compensated for by battery location. The EDF50H has the thrust I am looking for to do the Fenestron set-up for an EC120 Colibri balsa scale build I am working on. I just zip tied the fans on for testing, soldered the wires up and flew. I really did not expect it to be this easy. Definately impressed with the performance of these little units. Longevity is the remaining unknown but I would suspect with the cool running, after 5 to 6 minutes of hovering, that they should last quite a few hours. Buzzkill, recognize the head on this heli?
This will be the heli I will use for the Colibri build. Thanks again, man!

I've had one of those EDF50H's for a while.. Was considering hanging it off my CP... Now I think I may have to do just that...

I will put it this way, I was dumbfounded by how well it worked. If ya got one, Skiddz, give it a try. I would like to know what you think. I didn't wring it out full tilt flying, mind you, just hovering and zig-zag moves in my basement. I didn't even need to adjust the battery for the EDF40 test, the balance was OK.

My pleasure, looking forward to following the build!

Anybody ever try a BL motor in that fan housing?

Welp, it's gonna have to wait until Saturday at the earliest... Still trying to decide how I'm going to mount it.. I have some thin FRP lying around and I'm thinking of cutting out a fin with a hole large enough for the DF unit to slip in to and mount that to the tailboom with some zip-ties...

I have considered a Feigao 12mm BL motor for that fan...

I have that motor mounted and I have the fan. Let me know how it goes if you try it.

Thats cool! Now if someone made a lexan vertical fin to go over the DF motor and help make it "look" a little better.

Kinda like this

I hear that a rubber wire grommet works pretty good for mounting. Get one appropriate size for boom, install the grommet on fan housing and then just push onto boom. Maybe a little RTV or something to secure it. I think you would push it on so the end of boom contacts motor mount housing inside fan in some manner but still leaving room for the wires to exit. Then a fin would be just cosmetic and could be made from almost anything. :dontknow

Someone makes a CF fin that the fan mounts inside of. I cant remember who though. Shouldn't be a problem for Rebuild since he makes his own stuff. I'll see if I can find a link.

There's a small link under the fan.

Rebuild, how did the heli sound in a hover with the DF set-up?

Yea, here's what you were looking for.

Rebuild, how did the heli sound in a hover with the DF set-up?

I have been used to dual mounts on all my 300s and all I can say is, it is much quieter. Just a background high pitched whine of the fan blades. I like it!

Hi!!!!
I have this ducted fan tail set. It works great, for my skills.....
Its a ducted fan with a N60 motor, that i bought in ebay ( http://cgi.ebay.com/Micro-Ducted-Fan-5115-with-N60-9600Rpm-Brushed-Motor-AU_W0QQitemZ190130412039QQihZ009QQcategoryZ34056QQ rdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).
The "zzzzzz....noise" is nice.
The "structure is 1 mm PVC plate and balsa reinforcement.
I measured 1,5 to 1,8 A for the N60 in "full rudder". I put 2 diode in serial with the motor ( drops ~ 1,3 V in the motor ).
Sorry, English is not my "mother" language.....
