Last week I bought a DX7 and I put two 6100's in my little Trex450's and the 7000 in my Swift.

I have a G3 RX in my Trex600 and my Lepton and since those are 2048 and GREAT feeling I have no plans to switch those to Spektrum any time soon.

I had been running PCM 1024 on my little rex's and even using a 14MZ with the CCPM servos on the priority channels (4,5,6), we all know the latency is not that great on 1024. I could feel the difference with the DX7... I felt much more connected. Same on the Swift since it also was PCM1024.

So my thinking for doing this?

Well I figure when Spektrum comes out with a module for my 14MZ I can just sell off the DX7 TX and jump right in... I still dont like the feel of the DX7 TX in my hands and I miss the hold switch sometimes.
My bigger helis will stay on 2048 on the 14MZ and my little guys will be on the DX7 until the module comes out.

Then if Futaba makes it out with modules and RX's I will review again and decide to convert or not. This will depend on price, process, etc. I am sure I will have no problem selling off the DX RX's if I make a switch again..

Anyway the main reason I did this was because I didnt want to put $300 G3 RX's in my little birds and after flying a Trex on a DX7 and feeling the latency difference over 1024 I just could wait any longer!
For the little birds on Futaba there is no solution to get good latency feel as it's 1024 (to slow for me now), spend bucks on G3 RX's, or go PPM (not a solution).

Anyway I thought I would share what is now a mix I feel is good for now.

Funny Finless, I'm kinda thinking of doing the same thing. Basically, I'm thinking of holding onto my 12Z (really like the radio) so that when/if Futaba finally releases a 2.4 solution for it I'll have it available. In the meantime, I'll fly a DX7. I prefer the feel of Futaba radios over JR, but the no glitch possibility of the DX7 as well as the channel security really has me thinking of purchasing one. Since I only have one machine the additional cost of converting many receivers is a non issue.

Hi Finless,

Now that you have both, how do the two compare on speed - latency and general feel, dx7 verses the 14mz and g3rx? I know there is no comparision on features.
I have not heard a comparison from someone with both.

I have the 14mz and waiting for Futaba to step up to the plate.
I will try my small stuff on SS and keep the rest on 72 for a few years until
proven.

Thanks,
Tony

14MZ with spektrum module wont be as quick/directly connected as the DX7, that much they said themself.

Im also saving my 14MZ for the module, however, it didnt like standing in the corner for a few months :arggg:

Used it for my sim the other day and I got the dreaded "hits" (bad pot) on the rudder channel, asked the local service guy, he had never heard about it, if I send it in he will only clean it... wonder if I can do that myself.. (warrenty is already out the window)

Well I can tell you that the DX7 is WAY FASTER than my 14MZ on the 1024 PCM Rx's. That I could feel right off....

But I cant give you an apples and apples comparison just yet. I am still using my G3 in my TRex600 and I dont have another 600 with an AR7000 in it to compare.

I realize the 14MZ with a Spektrum module in it wont be as fast as the DX7 and probably not as fast as the G3 either. BUT it's is close if you look at the latency of PPM on the 14 and having the 3 CCPM servos on the priority channels 4,5,6.
I think it will be close enough you wont notice it but thats a guess....

I'm looking at getting the new futaba 6 channel 2.4ghz solution... so I can convert my 14MZ to the futaba system in due time

I like the thought of futaba stuff in my 14MZ, because I can see this happening already: I buy a spektrum module, plug it in... poofff... 14MZ burns down, Spektrum replaces the module.. futaba says I voided the warranty and I have a big problem  (Call me negative, but shit happens)

Anyway, nice one finless!!

Cheers,

Richard
