when i go to the input select and put aux2 to gyro and plug the gyro gain into channel 7 like it says the red light just blinks on the gyro so what is wrong? also the values only go from 0 to 100 i thought they went negative also?

When you set aux2 to gyro, you only get 0 to 100 range. You may have servo reverse on for aux2 and the 401 is detecting a negative value.

On the Gyro Sense menu enter a number above 50 for the 0: setting (I use 72%), If the light still isn't solid reverse the aux2 channel.

There are video's on setting up teh GY401 and the DX7

Since I got a DX7 I personally like to set the gyro on gear and set the gyro menu to gear. To me having the gain adjustable for RPM and tied to the idle up switch seems the best way!

Also setting it to gear if you have other models using only a 6 channel RX, all your helis are now consistant in the way you set them up.

But setting it to AUX2 is fine too but again I prefer using the gyro menu rather than end points.

I thought if you used the gear channel you had to adjust the gain with endpoints. I thought it was Aux2 that gave you the gyro menu. This seems to be confirmed in this thread:

I admit I'm just learning the DX7 but I didn't think the gyro menu was available on anything but Aux2.

Gscott you can use gear or aux2 (selectable on the input menu (one of the system menu's) by setting the appropriate channel to "Gyro") and you use the Gyro Sense menu to set gain to be controllable by either the D/R switch (typically mapped to throttle hold) or the Flight mode switch. Personally I keep it mapped to the flight mode switch then configure all modes to use HH with a gain of 72%.

The only time you use endpoings on the gear/aux2 channel to control gain is if you aren't using the Gyro Sense menu. In that Event you would map the channel to itself on the input menu..ie aux2/aux2 or gear/gear.

Thanks Jermo.

I was worried that I would have to give that functionality up when I temporarily moved from my 9303 to the DX7. It was a little confusing since I seen multiple people post that the gyro menu was not available if you selected the gear channel.

It's all dependant on the input select menu. If you have Gyro selected for Gear or Aux then you'll have the Gyro Sense menu. :)
I'm just happy to help.

why is it above 50? and the futaba radio below 50 and there is negatives?

The gyro menu ranges 0 to 100. Given that a GY401 calculates gain from the "middle down" as rate and "middle up" as HH, numbers less than 50 are rate and more than 50 are HH. You also have to do some math...

The gear endpoints are -100 to +100. So, numbers less than zero are rate gain and more than zero are HH gain. And, less math, in that the numbers are pretty close to actual gain. So -25 is about 25% rate gain, and +65 is about 65% HH gain, and so forth.

For this reason, I actually prefere the Gear endpoint method and turn the gyro page off even when using setups that would otherwise allow it.

how do you setup with the gear and endpoint method?
