View Full Version : New Bergen Coming for Me
Well, I'm entering into the world of gassers. I posted this as well over on the "other" forum so some may have seen this already.
My kit is in transit and I've got just about everything needed to get it built. This is the non EB version and I'm really looking forward to it arriving.
I'm sure I'll have a few questions during the build and hope you guys can put up with some silly questions here and there.
Are there many left on here still flying the non EB? I think the EB would be nice but man I just can't get over the price for those blades! Especially still being a rookie flyer and crashing once in awhile. I'll try and keep the crashing to my 50s though.
From everything I've read Bergen seems to be really customer oriented and easy to talk to. Seems to be true as Chris has already shot me a PM saying to post over here. I've been spoiled starting out with some great models and having excellent response from the designer/manufacturer.
Looking forward to chatting with you guys that fly Bergens.
Cheers, Shayne

Hey, there you are!! :D
First off, Welcome. You'll find an excellent group of people here, not just in the Bergen forum, but all over Helifreak.
I know Maryann got your kit out yesterday, so when you receive it, look it over, check the inventory, let us know when you have any questions.
Enjoy,

Welcome
And when you feel comfortable, you can always s t r e t c h to an EB. :D
Thanks guys for the welcome.
Can't wait to get her. I've been clearing one of the benches and TRYING to keep it clean in preparation for the arrival. I have four benches in my shop and you'd think that I would be able to keep at least one clear.
Cheers, Shayne
Where can I see an online parts list? Or d/l a parts list? I've looked on the the Bergen RC website and gone to Common Parts, but that's all it will let me do is look at a few parts on the first page. Is there an exploded view of the Intrepid Gas anywhere, showing the parts and part numbers?
I can look through the manual and find the part numbers and such but was wondering if there's anything on a couple pages showing everything.
Thanks, Shayne

Welcome Shayne
You have come to the right helicopter and the right place to get help ,,this forum and Bergen R/C are the two best places to deal with and don't worry about asking silly questions. That is what this forum is for and what this hobby is about ,, helping each other .
You will love the regular gasser and I think it 's a good choice for someone starting out in gas .
Your lucky to have four benches ,, I have one and you should try keeping it clean :WOW
You can search for parts numbers ,,by typing clutch , head , frame ,,etc .. but no pictures or download manuals that I know of ... maybe Chris will chime in here with help on that .. I live so close to their shop that I just go there for parts and a good time .
Have fun on your build

Good luck with the kit I had mine together in 2 days got the blades left and final setup with radio. The instructions that come with it are sweet made it really easy to follow. I just set my macbook pro up next to where I was working and copied the entire cd to my drive and went to work. Make sure you have a heat gun for the skids and fan shield makes it a lot easier to put together and get them lined up correctly as they are hard to push in other wise. I think I enjoyed the build as much as I will like flying it. Can't wait just need to get my dx7 programed correctly. Do not want to steal this thread but if anyone has any info on the setup for a dx7 pm me please so we will not hijack this :) thanks

The new manual on CD includes a parts list file, with a pic, description, and part number of each part on the heli.
As of right now, there isn't anything online, but we are working on that...
Look for the new web site very shortly.

Cool, I'll look on the CD when it gets here.

Welcome, Shayne. I'm flying the non-EB version and love it. The EB version is identical except for gearing, longer boom and stronger tail case, basically. You don't need to fly your EB with the expensive 800mm blades at first. You can use 720s or 710s, no problem. You have not experienced what good customer service is until you need to make your first call to Chris. Believe me when I say there is no better service: it is exceptional. Any questions that come up, ask away. We've all been there and are more than willing to help. I'm relatively new to gassers myself but will offer my $.02 worth of info if and when I know what I'm talking about. You may get frustrated at times but you will never regret purchasing a Bergen. Enjoy.
Shayne, I already have to apologize. I misread your post. You are getting the non EB version. I'll be glad to answer any questions that come up, if I can.

welcome to the club I am also a recent member to the bergen owners group
tip for you lay out all the parts and the hardware parts bag on a table or bench so you can inventory them to see if you need something that might be missing from the box
you will probably need a fan wrench form bergen to properly mount the fan to the motor unless you have a bergen owner in your area that can help you with that step
just make sure not to use the dinning room table as i did other wise the boss lady will not be happy with you ,, LOL look at my otehr tread to see what i mean
oh yeah you could always stretch it to an EB later and use the NHP 810 but the v blades are the top of the line in the size class
andres
Thanks for the welcomes guys.
miami6, I'm lucky that I have a workshop. I already have one of the four benches cleaned and ready for the Bergen's arrival (Monday I hope). It's been hard to keep clean because I'm also in the process of a scale build and any flat surface seems to be attracting pieces lately.
As for the wrench, I thought I saw a thread somewhere on how to make one. I was going to look that up. I have access to an excellent production shop at work so can probably make one there.
I also purchased about $700 worth of Bergen parts at a very good price so I'm hoping anything I am missing, I will have. If not, I'll have to order it. I bought the kit new second-hand so there is the possibility that some things are missing.

Congrats Herc! I had mine come in about 2 weeks ago and am still in the building phase (only because this is my very first build). I can't wait to get this baby in the sky (well hovering)! Dang, billf! You got it together in only 2 days? I'd better get on the good foot! :YeaBaby:
mister2u,
Good luck with the build. You picked a nice heli for your first.
Mine arrived today - well part of it, the motor is still in transit. Just had time to take a peak at it at lunch. Looks great and I'm eager to get started.
I should mention here too that this kit came from learmd and I bought it off of him partly assembled. Looks like quite a bit of it has been done so probably won't take as long. The second post in this thread by Chris Bergen was a mistake. He thought that a kit that had been sent out was coming to me. This was clarified in a PM but I forgot to update the thread.
Anyway, can hardly wait to get home tonight to get things laid out on the bench and have a closer look at everything.

Shayne ,,, better take a good look at what has been done and double check that it has been done right ... and that it has locktite on the bolts. It is a pain ,,but better safe than sorry .
Good luck and have fun :glasses2:
Good point Larry. I will do that. It will also get me familiar with all the pieces that have been assembled. Looks like just the frames and some bell cranks if I remember correctly.
Anyway, 35 minutes to go.

Shayne as Larry says...i usually go one further and pretty much take everything apart [not the frames but everything else]...inspect, clean, re-assemble...and this can be pretty easy depending on how it was torn down for shipping.
I think this is the first one though that i have ever gotten that was as clean as new....lol....still had to take it apart...lol....
Plus it gets me familiar with the heli's mechanicals....then again i'm fanatical...lol....
Try not to choke on your diner though.....
Enjoy,
Dean

Just installed the new muffler on my EB. I'm almost as happy as the first time I test flew it. Sounds like a whole different heli. :D

And a whole lot cheaper too ...lol.....
I got the V2 muffler with mine. Can't wait to hear it.
Worked on the build last night. Everything looks good that was done previously. Some things aren't loctited yet because I know I'm going to be loosening and adjusting still.
I built the boom w/ tail gear box and cut the torque tube down to size. Built up the washout assy and starting on the head now. Kind of jumping around while I wait for the engine to arrive and some other parts.
The kit is really nice and easy to work on. The manual is one of the best I've come accross and is laid out so that the pictures correspond to the text and the build progression. Very good for people that use both visualization and text instruction.
Just thinking ahead a bit and wondering about sourcing arrow shafts for replacing the torque tube. Does anyone have an online source or part number or do you just buy direct from Bergen? Can carbon shafts be used as well? I did a quick search but it seems there is a LOT to choose from when it comes to arrow shafts.
Looking forward to getting back to the build tonight.

When it comes to modifying the stock OEM parts on a heli like this .... well I just don't and wouldn't recommend it as a little money saved in non OEM shafts might lead to more money spent on the whole heli ,, if you get my drift. :bomb: :dontknow
Thanks Larry. Actually I didn't think it was a modification. I thought that's what I read, that Bergen used arrow shafts? If it's something that I can get locally or online in Canada (we have a lot of bow hunters here) and it's the same as what Bergen uses then should be fine?
There's no way I'd want to jeopordize my heli or safety by using something not recommended. The carbon was just something I thought I'd toss out there and see if there was any advantage or disadvantage or options.
