I am running the Hacker motor 3700 packs and 2200 head speed -- moderate 3D -- only getting 4 minutes??? Are other people experiencing this? would some sort of mod increase my flight time with same performance -- thought about going to the Tango 800????

When you are flying 2200 on several 3D 50 sized helis, it is common to only see 4-4.5 mins if you are obeying the 75-80 max % rule of mah takeout. I fly 4.3 mins on my Logo 14, my t-rex 600 as well. This is nothing new, there is a price for performace at the cost of time.

I understand that if you drop the headspeed down to 2000 or even 1800, there is a significant saving in amps, isnt there? and therefore longer flight times.

By changing flybar ratios etc, you can still get the performance, or am I mistaken. I am a newby to electrics so I might be incorrect here.

Yes to an extent you will run abit longer, however when you push it, then you will see a much higher amperage draw if the gearing is not there thus taking the flight time down again and creating a hotter motor and etc etc.., meaning if you are not in the curve of tourque you will be overstressing it. If you want longer flight times the best thing you can do is "gear to it" not back off the esc too much.

Headspeed is the worst "mah-killed" :)

Just a 100-150 RPM drop from 2250ish to 2100 gives another minute flighttime.

My E-Raptor 90 (heavy, 11.55lb) gave 1 min extra just backing down from 1960 to 1900.

In both cases I raised pitch instead and got about the same performance.

If its possible, yes, but just backing off a few notches helps alot too (if you have Jazz it works fine to run pretty low without temps get a problem, however, lower gear will always be better (higher torque))

Would I pick up a minute with the tango 45-08? Performance? would the weight of a 4350 battery hurt the performance?

I started with the Hacker as you did. I experienced about the same flight times, maybe a little more. I switched to the Tango 45-08 and can now safely fly for 5.5 minutes, maybe 6 but I don't push it. The Hacker has more power than the Tango but it's only about 10 to 15% more. I am really happy with my set up now, no temp issues and I can fly back to back flights with only about 5 minutes of cool down. You could always gear the hacker down a little wich would give you more duration for allot less money, I though about this as well but opted for the motor change.
