I watched Bobs video on how to set the 401 gyro up with a trexse but I have a problem. I can not get the gyro in normal mode (led off). I have a spectrum dx7 radio. In gyro sense screen auto is on and rate 0 =72% and 1 = 72% and flt modes are all set to 0. I need to have normal mode on so i can set the limit setting right?Help?

thanks: iowaboy (new to sport)

lower the 0: setting to any value below 50, that will put the Gyro into rate (normal) mode.

I thought I knew what i was doing but i guess not. I lowered the 0 setting to 46 and the led went off so i turnded everything off ,readjusted the limiter pot and tried again...now the led blinks slow. On the radio, does the gear switch do anything?

Another setup I forgot to mention was...in gyro setup i set aux to inh and gear to gyro if that helps.

set 0: to 46, center rudder..ie no trim/subtrim, servo horn 90 degrees, move the servo until the tail slider is centered. Now adust the limit on the gyro so that it doesn't bind at either extreme rudder input. Once this is done lock it all down and restore the 0: setting to 72. Gear switch isn't used if you are using the Gyro sense menu (even tho you are using the channel).

Is there a better way to utilize this gyro by not using the gyro sense menu.? thanks for being patient i'm getting there.

I've used it both ways with my DX7, and I think I prefer to setup the gyro without the gyro sense menu. That way, your gear channel controls the gyro mode and you use the travel adjust to set your gain in each mode. Then you can switch between modes with the gear switch.

"Better" is relative, you can just the gear channel to directly set gyro gain. This gives you 2 selectable gain setting controlled by the gear switch. Honestly if you are starting out like me you want to stay in heading hold 100% of the time. When in heading hold mode if you need to tell the gyro you moved the heli around you just re-center the slider by moving the rudder back and forth quickly (an example would be if you connect your battery on the bench and carry your heli to the flight line).

Either way works, Personally I prefer the Gyro Sense menu because IF I ever decide to use different gyro settings it will likely be for a specific flight mode. The simplest way to map the Gyro gain to a flight mode is to use the Gyro sense menu.

Either way is fine.
