Saw the above post on RR. Don't understand what the problem is. It has always been anyone that pays the landing fee gets a ticket for the door prizes. There were a 167 registered pilots at the event. When all the prizes were given out, there were about 15 tickets left in the bucket.
Those prizes did not just appear out of thin air. They were donated by venders, manufacutuers and distributors. All of the vendors that were at the event paid the landing fee. They did not have to do that, they were not asked to do that. But by them paying the landing fee they get a ticket for the door prizes just like everyone else. There were even a few that registered to get a ticket for the door prizes once they saw all the nice merchandise on the table.
I think everyone that registered got at least some of there registration fee back. There were free magazines, decals, neckstraps, and few other items available for the taking. So if any pilot didn't get at least something, it was because they didn't want anything
.Overall it was a great event.
( EXCEPT ) when it came time for door prizes. It was a very disorganized ordeal.
I am open to suggestions to how to make the raffle drawing better. We were drawing tickets and giving out prizes as fast as we could. This has been the same way we have done it the last few years and the same way I have seen it done at other events.

David,
You did a GREAT JOB and don't let anyone tell you any different, I know one person that is a field rep for Flight Power won a Flight Power battery and asked to have it put back in the drawing.

David,
Don't even give it a second thought about the prize give away, the drawing was done with the utmost integrity and professionalism. I thought that the give away was a fair and honest one even though I had to give my prize back.

Yeah Wren got the Trex 600, guess he shouldn't have won it because he is a firefighter and from Mississippi. LOL
Just aggravates me that someone would gripe about the raffle. I have been going to events for many years. And being a team pilot for a few manufactuers. I also don't take anything from the raffle. If I do, I give it so newbie that needs it. Now if I buy a raffle ticket in a separate raffle from the door prizes. I will take that prize if my name is drawn.
I guess the person that was complaining this would have been his first event. All the events I attend the door prizes are handled just like I do them at my event.
People complaining about door prizes will just make CD's not want to contact all the manufactuers and distributors months in advance to get the stuff donated.

Dave:
Look at the comments others have posted following Raptor Rich 1's original post. You'll see what most people think of the event/raffle. I second Wayne, if I look hard enough, I can find find something wrong with anything (even me! ).
Tell that guy to FO.

David,
I just don't know what you could do to make it more fair. A random pick is the method that is used at most events and it has always worked well. Anyone that has a complaint is just sore because they didn't win anything.

David,
First thanks for the great fun fly. The only way I think you could have made the drawing for the pilots raffle more fair, would have been to pick my name for some of those kits.... Other than that, don't change a thing.

The raffle was biased and David only picked people that he wanted to win....unfourtunetly it was just about every registered pilot at the event!
Thanks for another great event David, you and your crew did a fantastic job and I can't wait until next year when the weather WILL be better!! :glasses2:

If it is any consolation to you, I changed the way I did the pilot raffle @ PC to more reflect the style you did at Bham the year before (same way you did it this year). No matter what you do someone will find a way to gripe about it. Keep up the great work you run a fantastic event.
I would have thought it was even better if you pulled my name for the Razor or 600 but you did fantastic just the same.
BTW...I want Bob and Becky's luck they one something @ PC too.

Becky and I really appreciate the positive feedback everyone has had for us. We attend alot of events and since we both fly helis we enter the events to help support the club putting on the event, we also donate some of the prizes people win, and sometimes win a nice prize ourselves. The real prize for us has been the friends we have made over the years. I think David did a great job running the event, and anyone who feels differently should try to run an event and see how much work is involved.

Jim,
It was great to see you after about 10 years. You can be proud. Jamie is an outstanding pilot and young man. For only flying for 9 months he was right out there with pilots that had been flying for many years and he was showing them a few moves. Glad to have you and him in the hobby again. I know we will see the two of you at more events this year. Both of you have the bug and the only medicine that can cure it so going to events LOL
Maybe we will even see you back on the sticks again.

Great event David. I didn't see any problems that made me lose any sleep. :) Considering how many pilots were registered, I went nicely.. Good job! Nice prizes too! Folks just don't know what is involved in putting on an event like this..

Two words for this person... Richard Noggen!
David,
There's one in every crowd. I'm sure that person has no idea of the work, time and effort you personally as well countless others put into makeing a thing like this happen.
I can't wait to be there next year.

Paul,
He had to eat a little crow if you go back and read the thread I posted. As I suspected it was his first time at an event. The part that got me was he stated several pilots felt the same as him. One thing I always state at the event. If anyone has a problem come to me and I will address it. That is what I do at events. If I see what I think is a problem, I go to the CD of the event and talk to him. I think every CD wants the people in attendance to do the same.
That is only thing about people that attend large events for the first time. They are overwhelm by everything that is happening.

Personally I do not think vendors at an event should be in the raffle whether they donate prizes or not. Like Gordie, I never took or filled out a ticket, but it is a matter of personal preference and if you register you should be elligible.
David, you did a GREAT job, your event is one of the absolute most fun and best run all year. You deserve a TON of credit for such a great event.
There is also a point I want to make that I have not seen yet and that is that if you run it like you do where when people register they are in teh raffle, then vendors donate prizes. If you sell tickets, then a LOT of vendors will want to SELL you the prizes at cost or below. The way you do it is awesome!!
Overall the B-Ham Event 2007 was AWESOME!!!! Thank you!! :noteworthy :lolol :smokin:
