View Full Version : Flight a bit off....

When you go forward, it's more forward left.......when you go left it's slightly left & back, etc....

Swashplate looks straight, only change I can think of is I moved 1 of the servo horn arms out 1 hole, to match the other one. Would this make that difference?

I was bored, so swapped in the lower aluminum head. noticed the stock pin was slightly bent, but the flight pattern did not change. I can adjust manually a bit, but is quite annoying.

It would throw off the swash. I'm not saying thats the problem but when mine has drifted with all the trim and sticks centered I adjusted my swash to correct.

Should it be perfectly level? I guess I can center all the trims, and adjust the throw of the linkages to match to level it out.....

Many people would say yes to it being level. Personaly I level mine then take a test hover. If it is drifting I adjust to compensate for the drift. I'm a noob though so you may want to ask Fineless or somebody like that. It works for me.

I'm just curious what would cause the drifting at an angle ?

Let me ask you this. Canyou get rid of most of the drift by trimming the TX?

I should clarify....it hovers without drifting, and the trims are pretty much dead on.

If you push the stick forward, it goes forward-slightly left. If you go left, it goes left-slightly backwards.

I can adjust by working the stick, but would just like it to track straight. It did at 1 point, so I know i can get back to that somehow.

I added an aluminum V-tail, but I don't think that would cause a tracking problem like I am seeing.

Well your always going to get some drift from the CPP, thats unavoidable. Do you have a HH gyro?

I just have the stock electronics. I have had to adjust the "Main motor proportional mix" for stabilization of the Tail, as it kept rotating counter-clockwise even with trim maxed out to the right.

Could the gyro adjustment have a part in this issue?

Could be the tail motor going. They do that VERY often. Yes, Gyro definately contributes. I set my gyro to max gain (without tail wag). But this sounds like a bad tailmotor to me. I could be wrong but I doubt it.

I would say the tailmotor is missing, as it's a Blade CX2  I think, you thought I had a CP/CPP

LMAO sorry about that. Your right I was in CP mode.

Well now thatI have my head out of my butt, Yes the swash being wrong will cause drift but, that canbe fixed with trim. Next, the motor mixing. When I do mine I use the throttle trim toset the mix. I move the trim up one click at a time until one or both of the blades start to rotate. They should move tathe same time. If they dont very very small adjustments to the mix will correct this. You should be able to hover hands off (with absolutely no wind). IF you cant the only things I can think of is swash adjustment, motor mix adjust, blade balancing, bent main or outer shaft and possibly a worn main motor. Obviously the motor would be the worse case. IF you tried all the rest and it still drifts could be a heat issue in the 4-1 but that usualy on the CX not the CX2.

I recommend:

1. Adjust swash to level.
2. Make sure motor mix is right.
3. Adjust gyro.
4. New blades or check current blades for damage.
5. Check head for wobble (possible bend in inner or outer shaft or both).
6. If issue persist try venting the 4-1.
7. If all this fails, its probably a worn motor.

I'm certainly no expert but thats what I would do.

I will adjust the swash next, and see what that does.

Mix should be pretty much straight on, as both blades spin up at the same time, with the trim centered for rudder.

Will play with Gyro.

Shafts are straight. I just replaced the outer from a previous incident, and the inner is perfectly straight as well, checked that when I had it apart.

I just added the aluminum lower head, to go along with the aluminum upper head.

I just find it strange, that it goes in a slightly off direction.

Well, I adjust the swash a bit, and seems to be a bit better.....it holds a perfect hover 2' off the ground in the basement, with all the trims almost centered. I played with the gyro a bit, but turning it up a bit just made it harder to rotate, so put it back where it was.

Getting adicting just flying around the basement a few minutes here and there......

I just keep thinking of my next heli.....I'll prob go CP or CPP I guess.....as I can still fly indoors with that, and hopefully a little in front of the house.

I concur with Buzz man. I kept taking mine and adjusting one thing at a time in the order he gave you. Make sure all is visibly good then adjust according to how it reacts when you lift off to a good hover out of ground affect. A little at a time till all is good then fly it and fine tune where needed. Soon you will achieve a hands off hover with a fully charged battery. Some adjustment will need to be input by you as the battery wears down.
