As for me, I don't necessarily want to use that method.....in fact I have no idea which one I will ultimately use. Heck, I dont even have my bird yet! What I do have is a DX7. My goal right now is to learn the ins and outs of it, learn ALL of the methods, so that when I DO get my heli I'll have a much better idea of how I want to set it up. Your point Jermo, is well taken. I will certainly take that into consideration.

I think it's interesting you guys want to control the gyro with a switch other than the flight mode switch. Just another switch to hit. I'm trying it out and see no advantage to using gear to control it. You don't gain anything, in fact you lose functionality because you have to hit two switches now if you change gain in a different flight mode.
:dontknow
Because I don't change gyro settings when I change flight modes. Therefore, I don't "have" to hit two switches at the same time... ever... and I "can" change flight mode independently of gyro mode, and/or gyro independent of flight mode.
I only put the gyro in Rate to check setup. ALL other flight operations are in HH mode. So why even have it on a switch? I do verify proper operation of each Gyro mode as part of my "every flight startup sequence" before spoolup; that verifies proper Gyro init and has saved me a couple of times.

Yes it is an advantage if you want to have two different gain settings in each flight condition. You can use the gear switch to flip back and forth between gain settings. It is a great way to find out how a higher and lower gain affects the holding power. Just flip the switch while flying and switch from higher to lower or vice versa.
I have had mine set up with two different settings on a switch since the GY gyros became available.

If you were flying FAI I could see the need for multiple gain settings. I used to use them but for sport or 3D flying multiple gains are unnecessary. IMHO, it's more important to be able to switch rates for trimming purposes. Besides, if I were flying FAI, I wouldn't be using a DX.
