Sorry I posted in the main forum instead of here by mistake. Please have a look at this thread http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?p=3040379#post3040379

I've been trying to start up and idle the engine for the first time and it seems to work fine after I have figured out a few things. I am currently just testing the engine without blades on and when I give it some throttle and clutch engages and gains a little bit of head speed it sounds pretty nasty like a loud whistle and/or screeching noise. As far as I can tell everything is installed correctly and spinning the right way. I took it all apart at least 3 times in the last 2 days trying to troubleshoot the crank shaft nut problem. So is this normal for brand new clutch to make these sounds or is there something else I need to look at?
As stated in the original thread , dont go above idle without blades.
So the loud whistle only starts when you attempt to spool up? Or is it still present when the engine is idling?
You put the liner in? The liner hasnt come loose? Perhaps given its a new clutch and clutch liner, the clutch is slipping ?
(NB. Im only new to nitro. Just throwing in some ideas)..

I think I was noticing something that is normal and once the blades went on and it started flying that sound is almost gone. I believe it is the friction of the clutch but once it reaches certain rpm and fully engages I can't hear it. So it's all good.

Please ensure proper gear mesh between your main gear and your pinion. Initially, when teething on this machine, I mistakenly in.stalled the starter shaft stack the wrong way and had binding. This led to a squeaking sound in flight and nearly led to a ruined main gear/starter assembly.

I can spin the main gear easily by hand and cannot feel any binding. The mesh looks good to me as well. But how do you adjust it anyway? I know I can move the motor on the 6HV back and forth a bit to get it right but does it happen on the 3D Plus?

I reamed the holes in the starter block assembly to allow for a bit of adjustment. This worked great!
