I've noticed that most peope seem to place the battery on that little plate on the top and the ESC on the Big plate on the bottom. Why is this?
I was going to mount the battery on the bottom where it seems to fit nicely and then put the ESC on top where I can try to run the wires as far away from the motor and motor wiring as possible.
Am I way off base here? Do you guys put the battery on top for balance or for quicker rolls???

I'm also pretty new to this but i also searched for this earlier.
Putting the battery closer to the midpoint of rotation seems better for 3d flight, on the top in front brings the mass of the battery closer to the rotorhead, resulting in faster and more stable rolls and flips.
About the wiring,
I understand that the motor and ESC must be moved as far as possible from the receiver and antenna to prevent interference / glitching of the servo's.
The long receiver connection cable that comes from the ESC can be wound through a ferrite ring to prevent interference.
ESC cables that go to the motor must be kept as short as possible (depends on the distance between the motor and ESC)

That's what i understood so far, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I also believe when you search these forums, there are some topics with wireing photo's of the Trex.

I assume that you are talking about the TRex 450. If not, some of my comments below may not apply.

I have seen the wiring on the TRex done in a wide variety of ways. In fact, when I built mine I was at the Birmingham FunFly last year and had the opportunity to look closely at all of the Trexs there. What I found out was that there were no two alike!!! The only thing they all had in common was that the receiver was placed as far from the esc as possible and the wiring was routed so that it was as remote as possible from the esc. Other than that, everybody I talked to had a reason or theory for the way that they had their's rigged and they all seemed to work very well. Some of the guys that had multiple rigs had a different configuration on all of them and no real explaination why.

As for the battery placement, the best flyers seem to place them on the top tray. I have tried in both places on mine and at my skill level, I could not see a drastic difference.

Good Luck

Excellent. Thanks guys. I am definitely at the bottom of the skill level (flying) so I will assume that it won't make a difference to me if I put the ESC on the top plate and the battery on the bottom.
Thanks Eric, I gotta figure out how to search this forum for the info I need.

NP at all Mike,
I'm also having a hard time finding all this new stuff (for me it is) out.
Sometimes i find stuff on this board just after i did wrong :arggg: .
Good tip to watch all of the Finless videos before you make any move, :noteworthy.... he's right.
Beware not to wake up sweating hearing his voice in your dreams though
