I tried a set up with a Z50A-800 motor (kV780) on 12S, motor turning 35,000 and the belt didn't like it. Anyone know of a belt that can handle higher than say 28,000 rpm?
Stan
Stan,
I don't think that this motor is the right one for 12s. It's fine for 10s but you should be using the Z50A-600 motor for 12s imop.

Yes I know Tom, this was a test for Gary to see how the motor would fair under that high of a RPM. But several guys would like to find a belt that will hold up at higher RPMs than 28,000.
I'm putting the Z50A-800 in my 700EP with a 111T/8T on 12S to see if I can burn the motor up.
The -600 is going back in the Razor on 12S.

the belt will handle around 50000 rpms

I think that the neu 1515/2Y is running around 36000 rpm with the belt, mine appears to run fine.

r2160, your right I forgot about the 1515 being one of the motor options and I'm sure Tony knows what hes talking about, so then why did it shred apart instead of just breaking. I was using the 13T/30T and a 70T belt for a 13.84 gear and did have the belt tight. Maybe toooo tight?

belt does not need to be banjo tight . it will waste the bearings on the motor and the secondary gear bearings, and also puts unnessasory forces on the belt

The second belt separated yesterday and this one wasn't banjo tight, just took out the slack.
Clint, Tony says you broke a belt yesterday. How tight was yours and did it break or separate?

hey , well he didnt break one yesterday , more like 4 weeks ago or more , Im thinking your gov gain is set alittle tight , need to up the gain and also look at the throttle responce

found problem today which combin ed 12s with a small drive pulley.............12s is a different Beast but if you are going to run 12s there are some things to watch out for. Enjoyed talking Stan. Glad we found the problem.

hey , yeh that would be the problem there , big pole count motor , sure has alot of torque , sounds like the other 13.5 gear ratio is needed instead of that one , 16/ and a 36t

So is this a problem mostly associated with 12S?
Also how are you guys adjusting the belt tension?

theres different belt lenths for ratios that requires longer belts of shorter ones ,
the problems here is a outrunner 8 pole of bigger needs a big motorpully like 16t or bigger , the 13t is for the high rpm motors like the Neu 1515 2Y

I would stay with the smallest pulley being 20 and with that you will have good luck. Anytime you can go with a larger diamiter pulley , it adds strength. Ex. 13 and a 26 compared to a 20 and a 40 are the same 2 to 1 ratio.

Clint, are you saying that the current MA gearset for the Neu motor, 18.46:1 that uses a 13/40t pulley w/75t belt, is not strong enough? Should MA be using larger pulley's, like say a 20/62t combination instead?

high pole high torque motors is the problem with small pullys , with the High RPM 4 pole and under motors , it should be fine , but my guess with the 1521 , 16t pully would be the lowest I would go ,
Thanks Tony!

vefy well said Tony. Tom I merly said when possible I personally stay with the largest pulleys possible. I don't think you can get higher than 44 tooth. The 16 tooth is the smallest I I would try.
Thanks Clint.
