$900 with the 560 and maverick blades, are they ok? Can get it w/out blades if better out there... plus get the nankin discount not too shabby.... more JR 8917's and another DS650? Is the 650 enough for 700? Great on 6HV.... CC120 ESC ya baybee..... Don't tell the missus.....

Sarpilot,

If I had to do it over again, I would get an Align 700MX motor to get it in the air and wait for the Compass motor, I think aka. "El Brute". There wasn't much difference power difference from my 700MX motor (700E) and the Scorpion HKIII. As far as servos, I would invest a little more than the 650 for the tail. No doubt, I run the Savox version on my 6HV and the tail holds perfect! I run the 650 on my 600E and it works great as well. When you get the 7HV, you'll see why because it looks like a monster compared with the 6HV. That's my opinion and not trying to get you to spend more money by any means :).

Congrats on your purchase, you are gonna love it!

My 6HV feels and sounds like a 450 compared to my 7HV, especially when really cranking on it. The sound of the blades and their pulses can be felt, especially when you hit the pitch hard. It was fun at the airshow to hover inverted an inch from the runway and jump away like a rocket.

As ItsElectric said, the 700MX is a reasonable motor which makes respectable power for the price. Best to see if you can pick up one of the 700MX-510 motors in the classifieds. I installed a new shaft and Boca ABEC 5 class bearings (no seals or ceramics) which simply have shields which allow for easy relubrication.

Rob,

I was gonna mention that as well. The 6HV truely looks like a 450/500 next to the 7HV because of it's low profile and sleek look.

As far as the 700MX motor. I did a simple search and found this as an example.

Yep - there you go, Sarpilot. An inexpensive motor with very respectable power. Runs considerably cooler than the Scorpion as well.

Kind of exciting plotting and planning a kit out again. Looking at servo specs the DS650 has more torque than the JR8900G and MKS BLS980, the 980 is almost twice as fast as both at .03 What is more important here is the question torque or speed?

It will probably be like the 6HV which took me about 2 months to get completely assembled which is not a problem so long as I am building something. I think I am pretty well set on the 8917's for cyclic love them on my 6HV like 200 flights no gear play at all. Mike has a kit with no motor, maybe that is the way to go and wait for the Compass motor? Has anybody heard when that is going to be?

If you think it could take you a month or two, I'd wait on the motor as a last thing you buy, because it is likely the Compass motor comes sometime Oct-Nov, but I don't know for sure... Dave K knows better. Also this is assuming production process goes as it should this time. I've heard they are testing a "brute" at the factory.

If you get a brushless tail servo like the MKS, it should last you a lot longer than a coreless such as the DS650. Also, MKS tends to have lower or more accurate ratings on torque/speed than some of the competition... it's kind of a gray area. Also, torque is about as important as speed. If you have a very fast servo it will need some muscle to keep the speed marginal when it gets loaded up.

Have fun deciding, buying, building, flying. I'm about ready to launch my 7hv!

thx Caleb... ya I really like the 540 in the 6HV and like I said once I kit up its gonna be a few paychecks getting it all. What do you guys have like 2500-3 in your 7HV's? That is what I am guessing for batts and all that.... I only have 3000's so they wont be any good....

The MKS 980 on tail is great. The other options would be the outrage Torq servo BLS 9188.

I have just standardized on servos-any new large machine gets 8917's on cyclic and an 8900G on the tail. If I had to remove a servo from one to make another fly, I can.

This works in the short term, but not over time.

I was going to standardize on 8317's, then they were discontinued.

Then I was going to standardize on 8717's, and they were discontinued.

Now it is 8917's, so I am wondering if/when they will be discontinued...

I know the 8900G has already been superseded, but is still in production.

Nothing that I can see spec wise can touch the 8917's.... Over 200 flights on my set they are downtown perfect as the day out of the box.

And also the Futaba BLS256HV

are the issues now all solved? or are we just waiting on a new motor?

No current issues to resolve. Just waiting on motors I guess.
What about main blades, are they available now in kits?

I did have some missing parts preventing me from finishing my build but overall goes together trouble free, at least what you have to build.

I did check Thrust bearings for correct orientation and grease and were all good.

I have a 7HV build underway too. This is a very nice heli but I have also had a few missing parts that I am waiting on. No extra parts in this kit like the Align kits I have put together.

Here are my build notes so far:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Main grips were missing the washer (82-801003) between the thrust bearing and outer radial bearing on 1 side, wrong size on the other (larger washer OD contacting outside race of outer radial bearing). Inner thrust bearing washer was a press fit into blade grip on both.
Tail grips were not assembled in correct order and were also missing the washer(82-3403) between the thrust bearing and outer radial bearing. Both tail thrust bearings were dry (no grease).
Missing parts in kit that had to be ordered to complete:
(2) 09-7024 (servo spacer)
(2) 82-801003 (washer)
(2) 82-3403 (washer)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My buddy's 7HV had all required parts and everything was lubed and correct. No issues at all in his build.

This is a great kit, but it's always best to re-check everything yourself.

(2) 09-7024 (servo spacer)
That's what was missing in mine too.
Also M3x25mm and nut to secure Boom struts to boom clamp, had a spare in my drawer.

Look like my 82-801003 are wrong size too. From memory mine are more like 8.2x14x.3. Should still function the same but not as spec'd

Haven't pulled the tail rotor apart yet.

"(2) 09-7024 (servo spacer)"

Is this the spacer for the rudder servo?

Mine were different in thickness and appearance than those shown in the manual. Mine were thinner and rectangular. I have seen both types now-both work fine.

GimpyGolden

Yup Rudder servo spacers.
I got the rectangular ones you mention(same as Mikado Futaba spacer) but these are no thick enough to properly align my BLS251 with control rod.

Can't find the washer/spacers available at any of the dealers, were did you get them from?

They are sold under a different part number to keep us on our toes:)
This is where I found them. These are 10 pieces to a package and make sure you use the coupon code "50compass" at checkout for 50% off.

My tail control rod was not able to be used. Was there any adjustment made one way or another to assure the rod is the correct length? Mine was too long, and once trimmed to length, lacked sufficient remaining threads for safe engagement of the ball ends. I replaced mine completely, but I don't expect others to do this.

Scott, if you don't see 'em, send me an email. ;)

We're still busy loading up our Compass SKUs here in Canada and ordering weekly (and some cases, twice a week). Some of the SKUs cross over several models which can also be confusing.

GimpyGolden

Don't see em on your site Jeff checked every model part list. If you have an order going maybe add some to it for your kit and mine for sure(batch 3).

Can you Jeff or another dealer or team rep confirm with Compass if maybe there has been a running change and these parts have been substituted?

Jeff_Barrett

I've ordered them. I'll see them the end of next week.

I think there may have been a change, but I'll have to confirm, are you sure you're not looking for these instead??

Nope looking for the spacer between the radial and thrust bearings in main blade grips and tail blade grips.
Mine seem smooth and no play so I am thinking there has been a change but still would be nice to have correct part as listed in manual.
Thanks Jeff
